Baloch leader accuses agencies of killing non-Baloch in Balochistan

Gazzain Marri says state functionaries want to bring bad repute to Baloch resistance movement
* Says being an agent of foreign powers is not in genes of Baloch people

Staff Report

QUETTA: Nawabzada Gazzain Marri, a former home minister of Balochistan, has said that the state functionaries are also involved in the killings of non-Baloch people, mainly settlers, to bring a bad name to the home grown Baloch resistance movement.

He said that Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani had also admitted this fact in one of his recent interviews. In an interview with a private news channel, he said his father Nawab Khair Bux Marri and he himself were falsely implicated in the murder of Justice Nawaz Marri by the country’s secret security agencies.

Referring to the resistance war, he said it was the last option for the Baloch people. Earlier, Baloch people’s experience with parliamentary politics failed and the NAP government in 1973 was dismissed, although it enjoyed the support of a two-third majority. He said that the dismissal of the government was followed by a military action.

Nawabzada Gazzain Marri said that he and his brothers also joined the government in the hope that the parliamentary politics would be given a chance to succeed in Balochistan, but in vain.

“Rights of Baloch people and their resources have been usurped for the last six decades and no relief has been provided to the Baloch people either,” he lamented.

“Being an agent of foreign powers is not in the genes of Baloch people,” he said, adding, “Earlier, Baloch people were dubbed as Russian agents, while now they are being branded as Indian agents and in future they may be tagged as CIA agents.”

He said if there was any statement from India vindicating the Baloch struggle, for him it was an encouraging sign. “Significance of Balochistan issue is magnifying in regional and international politics,” he observed.

He said India had never tried to establish any link with him. “If the government has any proof about our secret links with India, it should come out with a concrete proof,” he added.

“Rather than handing the Baloch people their rights, including control over their resources, the government, instead, has responded by gifting three to four bullet-riddled dead bodies of Baloch people to their relations,” Marri added.

He was of the view that there could be a better atmosphere in Balochistan if the government withdrew all combat troops, besides setting free all the missing persons. “It could have led to a situation, where the Baloch fighters were willing to talk to the government,” he said, adding, “Four to five mutilated dead bodies is a real package by the government of Pakistan.”
