Neglect Of Balochi Language

May 19, 2011 (2 days ago)THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Neglect of Balochi language' (May 13) by Monis Ahmed Ali. I agree with the writer that mother tongue has great importance and should not be neglected.

Howerver, I disagree with him that people in Balochistan are not ready to read and write in the Balochi language.
Despite the government's negligence, the Balochi language has gained popularity.

People like Atta Shad, Murad Sahir, Sayad Zahoor Shah Hushmi and many more have devoted their lives for the promotion of the Balochi language.

But the sad reality is that the government has shown little interest in promoting this language.

Although Balochi is being taught in all private schools in Mekhran, to date it has not been implemented as a subject in government schools.

The most disturbing factor is that the Balochi being one of the main subjects in the college has no standard course books and most of the students who have taken Balochi as a subject are compelled to rely on general books for passing their examinations. This shows that the government does not want Balochi to be promoted.

It is a fact that a language cannot be saved by individual works. It needs institutions and academies for its survival. If we want Balochi to be saved, it should be taught in all schools of Balochistan, as Sindhi is being taught in Sindh and Pushto is being taught in Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
