QUETTA – The Balochistan National Party (Awami), a coalition partner in Balochistan government, has filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court on Saturday praying for postponing census and house-listing till Afghan refugees are stopped from participating in the survey, rehabilitation of flood affectees and improvement of law and order situation in the province.
The petition was filed by two sitting ministers Mir Asadullah Baloch, who is central secretary general of the party, and Syed Ehsan Shah, parliamentary leader in the assembly. Senior lawyer Hadi Shakeel, the petitioner’s counsel, submitted the petition in the court. The petitioners stated hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees were living for decades in Balochistan and a considerable number of people had migrated to the neighbouring province and districts. The majority population of two restive districts of Kohlu and Dera Bugti had left their homes due to the on-going military operation, and the prevailing deteriorating law and order in the province did not permit for census and house-counting, the petitioners stated.
The BNP leaders prayed to court to postpone the on-going census and house-listing in Balochistan till Afghan refugees are stopped from participating in the census and house-counting, the IDPs from Kohlu and Dera Bugti and the flood-affectees of nine districts are completely rehabilitated and the law and order is improved in the province.
