Occupied Balochistan, Quetta - Two policemen and a civilian were killed on Sunday in a remote-controlled bombing in Pakistan's south-western Baluchistan province, police said. Another 16 were injured in the blast in the Kawari Road area of Quetta, the provincial capital.
The bomb, containing about five kilogrammes of explosives, was attached to a bicycle parked on the roadside and detonated when a police van passed by, local police official Hamid Shakeel said.
No one has claimed responsibility but Shakeel suspected the Baluch groups fighting for political autonomy and a greater share in profits from natural resources exploited in Baluchistan.
The government forces have tried to suppress the insurgency which has left hundreds of people, including nationalists and security personnel dead, over the past four years.
The violence has escalated in recent days, with nine people killed on Friday and Saturday in Baluchistan. Most of them died in drive-by shootings.
