Six, Including Cop, Killed in Turbat Fire Exchange »

TURBAT/QUETTA: At least six people, including two cousins of BNP president Sardar Akhtar Mengal, were killed during a fierce exchange of fire between security forces and the residents of a house raided by the Frontier Crops in Turbat on Wednesday.
According to a press release issued by the Frontier Corps (FC), some armed persons opened fire on the patrol party on Turbat Airport Road and fled from the scene. When they were chased they took shelter in a house, the FC handout said.
Local police and security personnel encircled the house and warned the hiding residents to surrender. However, the armed men opened fire on the police and security personnel.
The exchange of fire continued for several hours and finally the police and security forces took control of the situation.
During exchange of fire five local residents identified as Murad Jan, Zubair Jan, Hasil, Majeed and Hamal were killed. An official of the security force was also killed. His identity was not disclosed.
The police recovered two Klashnikovs, one pistol, one 7mm rifle, notable quantity of explosives and detonators from the house which had been almost destroyed by mysterious blasts during the exchange of fire.
One of the dead was expert of making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), the press release said.
The house in which the alleged militants were hiding was owned by Ayub Gichki, a maternal uncle of President of Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal. Two of the dead Murad Jan and Zubair Jan are sons of Mir Ayub Jan Gichki.
Police has launched investigation of the issue.
The situation in the area is reportedly very tense after the incident as local residents blamed the FC for unprovoked firing. More details are yet to come.
