Suicide attack kills dozens in southeast Iran -- Targeting Shiite ceremony

TEHRAN (AlArabiya, agencies)
The official IRNA news agency reported a suicide bombing near a mosque in southeastern Iran has killed dozens at a Shiite mourning ceremony.

Iran's official news agency IRNA said the attacker struck outside Imam Hussein Mosque in the city of Chahbahar near the border with Pakistan on Wednesday. Dozens were also injured.

The bombing appeared to target a group mourning Ashoura, which marks the 7th century death of the grandson of Islam's Prophet Muhammed.
"We have no word yet of any deaths but between 50 and 60 people have been admitted to hospital," local member of parliament Mohammad Yaghoub Jadghal told the news agency.

"The terrorist attack targeted pilgrims outside the Imam Hossein Mosque" in the town in Sistan-Baluchestan province, he added.

Unlike most of Iran, Sistan-Baluchestan has a significant Sunni community and has seen persistent unrest in recent years by the Sunni militant group Jundallah.
