ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has decided to grant amnesty to Baloch leaders who are in exile and the parliament will soon announce this as well.

This was revealed by the president, who belongs to a Baloch family, during a meeting with a delegation of Baloch elders at the Presidency in Islamabad.

The president said that the government aimed to restore and rejuvenate the confidence of all the alienated political players of Balochistan – whether they were based in Pakistan or abroad.

These leaders could play a constructive role in national politics, said the president, pointing to the fact that this would also strengthen democracy in the country.

Those who attended the meeting included Nawab Khalid Gichki of Makran, Nawab Abdul Rehman of Kharan and Sardar Yar Mohammad Jamali.

Chief of the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman also called on the president Asif Ali Zardari Monday night.

The current political situation and matters pertaining to the coalition in the federal government were discussed during the meeting.—DawnNews
