LAHORE

JAMAAT-E-ISLAMI has called for an immediate end to military operation in Balochistan, release of all political workers, grant of provincial autonomy to all the provinces under the constitution and distribution of national/mineral resources on the basis of justice and economic conditions. It has further demanded immediate measures for the recovery of missing men and women from Balochistan, the institutions and offices related to Gowadar Port be shifted to Quetta and the Baloch people be given proper representation.

This was said in a resolution adopted by the JI Central Shoora at its recent meeting chaired by Syed Munawwar Hasan.

Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict on the NRO, the Shoora, through another resolution, demanded expeditious trial of the NRO beneficiaries involved in cases of murder, abduction, rape, loot and plunder. All such people must be barred from contesting elections in future, the Shoora proposed.

The JI central body was confident that the implementation of the historical SC decision could help wipe out corruption from the country. However, it felt that President Zardari and the five-party ruling alliance were obstructing that.

The Shoora expressed deep concern over the attempts from certain quarters to alter the Islamic character of the country by dropping certain Islamic provisions from the constitution, including those related to Hudood, usury and blasphemy. It said that Pervez Musharraf’s government changed the Hudood laws to appease the US which was tantamount to inviting Allah’s wrath. The Shoora counseled the government to refrain from all such designs in the larger national interest. It also exhorted the patriotic and religious forces to join hands to protect the Islamic provisions of the constitution.

It also urged the lawyers and the media to build public opinion on healthy lines and foil all conspiracies of the anti-state elements.
