Flood Devastation Continues in Sibi, Kachhi Plains

QUETTA: Train service remained suspended on Tuesday for the sixth consecutive day from Sibi to rest of the country and the road communication of Jhal Magsi and Gandhawa was also not restored.

The relief efforts were being carried out in Sibi, Kohlu, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Barkhan where local administration distributed goods and food among the affectees.

“We have received six trucks of relief and were distributed among the affected people,” Deputy Commissioner Sibi, Shahid Saleem said. Similarly, two trucks arrived in Naseerabad and 12 loaded trucks with relief goods had reached in Barkhan.

According to Pakistan Railway officials, the flash floods destroyed the track from several places in Sibi, thus it was taking more time to restore the services. The officials may repair the damages today on Wednesday.

According to initial survey, three thousand people of two union councils had been uprooted by hill torrents in Kohlu district. Deputy Commissioner Kohlu Nasrullah Rind said that PDMA had dispatched 200 tents, 300 packets of wheat, medicines and other relief items. He said that power supply had been resumed in Kohlu after five days of disruption.

The road communication between Jhal Magsi and Gandhawa areas could not restored and both the towns were remained cut off from rest of the world on Tuesday.

According to reports reaching, around hundred thousands people have been affected in Naseerabad when flood flash lashed the Baba Kot, Tambo Tehsil and adjoining villages.

Local journalist Naseer Mastoi said that representatives of government are busy in photo session and the relief operations are inadequate as still majority of the people are living under the open skies. He said that there are huge losses reported and the international donor agencies should come forward to help the affected people.

Opposition Member of Balochistan Assembly, Bakhtiar Khan Domki has said that Government is delaying the relief operations and majority of the people in Baktiarabad living under the open skies without having proper food and clean drinking water facility.

He said that if immediate steps were not taken he along with affected people would organize protest demonstrations in Quetta and elsewhere.

Power supplies in Sibi town and entire plain could not be resumed as the officials of Qesco were engaged in repairing of power transmission line which were washed away by flash floods.

Affected people from Sibi and Kohlu contacted through phone have demanded immediate rehabilitation of devastated villages. “Our houses should be repaired on priority basis,” Sabir Domki, a resident of Baktiarabad said.

Keeping view the heavy rain in southern and eastern Balochistan, the administration of Sibi and Naseerabad have warned that if another hill torrent lashed the area then the situation would go out of control.
