Balochistan Belongs to Balochs, No "Equal Status" For Others: BNP

QUETTA: The Balochistan National Party (BNP) has categorically refused to grant "equal status" in the Baloch-majority province of Balochistan to any other ethnic group living inside the province, vowing not to allow anyone to cash the fruits of the ongoing Baloch struggle.

Speaking on the Chelum of Naseer Langov in Qili Ismail, the acting president of the Balochistan National Party, Dr. Jhanzaib Jamaldini said that the so-called democratic government was still pursuing the dictatorial policies of General Pervez Musharraf. The cycle of violence against the Balochs intended to commit genocide of the Baloch people is taking place without any interruption. The government is busy in violating the sanctity of domestic privacy by conducting regular raids at people's homes and kidnapping political workers.

"There is a need for the Balochs to fight on all fronts for the attainment of their rights," he said adding that all options, including resistance and media battle, should be employed to achieve the Baloch objective of right to self-determination.

The BNP leader strongly condemned the demands to divide Balochistan saying those who talked about breaking Balochistan could not be the friends of Balochistan as they were making an effort to cash the prevailing situation in the province in the wake of Baloch confrontation with Islamabad at the moment.

"Pashtuns are our brothers. We have been living with them for centuries and share countless historic, civilizational and cultural links with them. However, we fully reject their demand to divide Balochistan. In response to their demand, we want the Pashtun areas of Balochistan to be incorporated into Khyber Pashtunkhawa," he suggested, "we wish them (the Pashtuns) all the best. May their land remain filled with gold and copper as we do not care about it. Yet, no one else, except the Balochs, has the right to claim ownership or control on the the natural resources of Balochistan."

The acting BNP president defended his party's stance by saying that only the Baloch sons had sacrificed their lives and given their blood for defending the natural resources and the coast of Balochistan. Therefore, it was unfair on the part of the Pashtuns to demand equal status in the province or equal share on the natural resources of the province. The Balochs have faced all forms of state suppression and repression against them while defending their motherland and its resources. The homes of Baloch people have been bombarded and the missing persons belong to the Baloch families. "No one else faced this barbaric attitude of the state except the Balochs," said the BNP acting president.

He said that the demand for breaking up Balochistan was a conspiracy to push the province into a state of civil war. Considering the prevailing situation, it is wise for both the Balochs and Pashtuns to express solidarity with each other and develop unity in their ranks in order to wage a collective struggle against their common enemy. They should ensure a joint journey to get rid of the policies of occupant forces which are bent upon usurping the rights of the smaller provinces.

"Plans are underway to weaken Balochistan politically which will not be tolerated at any cost. We demand the incorporation of the Pashtun areas of Balochistan into Khyber Pashtunkhawa and complete repatriation of Afghan refugees who have been living in Balochistan now for at least three decades in spite of an improvement in the state of law and order in their own country," said Jamaldini.

The BNP leader also demanded the withdrawal of security forces from the educational institutions , stoppage of brutal activities of government forces against the civilians, recovery of Munir Baloch Advocate, Dr. Naseem Baloch, Dr. Din Mohammad and Dr. Akbar Marri.
Speaking on the state of the mega projects, the BNP leader said Gwadar Port, Reko Diq Gold and Copper Project, Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline should immediately be cancelled and the missing persons should be recovered from the custody of the state intelligence agencies.
" In order to overcome the ongoing power crisis, the government should ensure the use of alternative solar system for energy needs. Thermal power plants that run on coal should be established in Balochistan to meet the needs of the province in the energy sector" he proposed and further demanded that the "economic genocide" of the farmers should be stopped by overcoming the ongoing spate of load-shedding.

Speaking on the occasion, BNP central secretary general Habib Jalib Baloch said Balochs were not bound under any circumstances by the international agreements signed between Islamabad and different countries of the world on projects related to the Baloch resources.
"The Baloch people were not consulted while inking these projects. Therefore, we do not abide by their terms and conditions," he said.

The BNP secretary general said his party would not back out from its previous stance of seeking the right of self-determination for Balochistan. The state policies of injustices and cruelties are unlikely to undermine the resolve of the Baloch leaders.
"We will continue our struggle by all means," vowed Jalib.

The speakers in the meeting paid rich tributes to Naseer Langove saying that the caravan of the Baloch martyrs would keep going forward without any interruptions in the future.
"We strongly condemn the government security forces for opening unprovoked fire on young Naseer Langove and then refusing to register a case against those responsible for his killing. The refusal to lodge a case against the culprits who killed Langove clearly shows the anti-Baloch policies of the government. We regret that even the international human rights organizations have kept quite on the plight of the Balochs, a behavior that we strongly condemn," he said.

The Baloch leader concluded while stressing on the need for ensuring unity among the Baloch people in order to foil all attempts by the anti-Baloch forces.
The program was addressed by senior BNP leaders including Akhtar Hussain Langov, Javid Baloch, central secretary general of Baloch Students Organization (BSO-Muhiuddin), Malik Naseer Shahwani, Agha Hasan Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Marri, Ghulam Rasool Mengal, Kaka Buzdar, Musa Baloch, Manzoor Baloch and others.
