QUETTA: Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani has reaffirmed his commitment to defend the legitimate rights of his people in protecting the copper and gold reserves at Reko Dik and other mineral and natural wealth elsewhere in Balochistan.

“I can’t think to sell the Reko Dik wealth at throw away prices,” Raisani told newsmen here on Friday evening. “Whether I stay in the Chief Minister Secretariat or at the Sarawan House, I will continue to defend the resources and wealth of my people and at all cost,” he added.
The Chief Minister charged that a deliberate vilification campaign had been launched against him in the media in order to bring him under pressure.

He said he would resist all such nefarious plots against him and he would continue to protect the natural wealth of the people of Balochistan. He referred to the columnists and analyst offering offending comments giving a wrong impression that he was about to sell the assets of the people of Balochistan at a throw away prices. Nawab Raisani said that they are native people were unaware about the facts and the ground realities on this issue and involved in speculations and guess works.

He challenged those elements to prove their charges that he had already concluded an agreement with any one. Mr. Raisani advised the media to avoid speculations and vilification campaign against him as he believed that the natural wealth at Reko Dik and elsewhere are the property of the people of Balochistan. The Chief Minister said that he thought the resources belonged to the people and none else and he considers himself as its custodian.

” It is impossible that I will sell the natural wealth at throw away prices. I will be the last man to take a decision against the will of my people,” he assured.
He reiterated his stand that the Government of Balochistan had the will, the resources and expertise to operate Reko Dik Project to the satisfaction of our own people. Nawab Raisani renewed his earlier stand there was no fresh agreement with the Chilean company. There was an agreement pertaining to exploration of the mineral wealth only. There was no agreement on exploitation of the mineral wealth at Reko Dik, Nawab Raisani clarified.
