Balochistan remians shut in protest against Military operations and extra-judicial killing of Baloch activists

Occupied Balochistan: There has been a complete shutter-down strike in the entire Makran Division for the past 15 days after recovery of bullet-riddled bodies of political opponents, educationists and ordinary people following hostage-taking and illegal detention.

A government teacher, Tanveer Baloch, a resident of Panjgur, said that from the last 15 days educational institutions, banks and the post office have been closed because every other day we receive dead bodies of students, political workers and others.

He said that the citizens were facing problems in getting their salaries because all the banks were closed. “There is nothing to eat as all the shops are also closed. Even if some shops are open, we do not have the money to buy things,” Tanveer said. He added that bank managers were receiving threats not to open banks otherwise they would be responsible for their and the lives of their staff. The government will not protect the life and property of the people, including the employees of the banks.

Separaretly, a complete shutter-down strike was also observed in Panjgur, Gwadar, Turbat, Pasni, Jiwani, Ormata, Mastung Khuzdar, Surab, Kalat Naushki Dalbandin and other areas of Quetta on Friday to condemn the killings of an activist of National Party and prominent Baloch intellectual and University of Balochistan professor Saba Dashtyari.

The strike call was given by the National Party and the Baloch National Front, which was supported by all the political parties and student organisations. All shops, markets, commercial establishments, banks and even pharmacies and restaurants remained closed for the day. Traffic remained thin on the road with people preferring to stay home due to the strike. (Courtesy: Dailytimes)

Local residents from different towns of Balochistan have told Balochwarna that since Pakistan [Military and Intelligence agencies] started the new wave of in-custody killings of Baloch missing perosn and target killing most politically aware and well educated activists in Balochistan, the Baloch people also intensified their protests against such atrocities of the state. Now hardly a days passes that there is no protest across Balochistan. Most towns and cities of Balochistan wear a deserted look due to daily strikes.

It is the first time in Baloch history that women in large numbers are not only joining the protest but they are also playing a leading role in organising strikes and rallies. Baloch women in a statement said that they consider it their National responsibility to stand shoulder to should with their brothers to protest against state terrorism and its crimes against humanity.

Baloch lawyers, teachers and socail activists are also on strike against the ongoing military operations in Balochistan and the under-custody killings of enforced-disappeared Baloch activists by Pakistan Military intelligence.

On the other hand there is a mounting anger amongest the Baloch people against the Intenational Community and Western democracies for their double standerd towards the occupied Balochistan.

Baloch people say that Pakistan is committing these atrocities right before the eyes of Internaitonal Human Rights Orgnisation, Western countries that claim to be the champions of human rights and freedom, yet they take no action against Pakistan for committing the genocide of Baloch people. People are increasingly asking If the Western powers can take action against Libya's Gaddafi, if they can trial Ratko Mladic for his crimes against Humanity then why not take action against Pakistan and put Pakistan military generals on trail for their crimes in Balochistan.
