QUETTA: Leaders from most opposition parties in Balochistan have rejected the federal budget for the year 2011-12 by terming it a mere scrambling of figures and predicted that the people of the country would further be overburdened rather than getting relief from the government.
Dr. Janzaib Baloch, acting president of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) said that instead of providing relief to the people, the government had once again imposed RGST which was highly condemnable. “Government should reduce defense budget and improve relations with neighbouring countries so that more funds could be provided for provision of maximum releif to people” he added.
Dr. Ishaq Baloch, a senior leader of National Party said that about 9 trillion deficit had been shown in the federal budget 2011-12 which could not be termed as friendly budget at all. “The budget has disappointed the masses and it is not possible for the government to bridge the big deficit” he said and adding that government would meet deficit by increasing the prices of petroleum products and electricity which would double the burden on common people.
He said that only Rs 40 billion had been earmarked for education and health sectors that was not sufficient for a large population million. “Health and education sectors need more attention of the government but unfortunately both sectors have been neglected”, he added.
Referring to 15 percent increase in the salaries of government employees, NP leader said that salaries of employees should be increased in accordance with the inflation.
Provincial President Pashtoonkwa Milli Awami Party, Usman Kakar said that the though the speech of federal finance minister was wonderful but the budget is not people friendly. “There is a huge deficit in this budget then what can we expect from such a budget”, he said, and adding that a big amount would go to pay the interests on loans.
He said that a huge chunk of money had been allocated for defense while there was no relief for general public and adding that the constituencies of President and Prime Minister had been given more priority in the upcoming budget. “Balochistan which generates revenue and wealth for the country has been given a meager share”, he remarked.
He said that no tax had been imposed on landlords because a number of landlords were themselves in the parliament.
PKMP leader said that every year government allocated a huge amount for law and order but the situation was deteriorating with every passing day. Country received billions of dollars under Kerry Luger Bill and foreign assistance but nobody knows where these amount have gone, he asked
PML-N Balochistan’ Chief Organizer Khuda-e-Noor said that it was beyond the understanding that the budget of Pakistan was presented only within 20 minutes. “It was nothing but jugglery of figures” he added.
Hazara Democratic Party’s central Chairman, Abdul Khaliq Hazara said that federal finance minister had proved that government had failed to provide facilities to the people.
He said that neglecting different sectors including health, education and agriculture depicted that the budget was made for a specific class of people.
Jamaat-e-Islam Ameer Abdul Mateen Akhuzandza said the allocation of merely Rs 500 million for 100 dams would not be sufficient. He said that government should take steps to steer the country out of interests and loans, and should sever its relation with United Stations. “Rulers should adopt austerity and provide relief to the masses”, he added.
