Orders Secretary to meet relatives of missing persons
Islamabad—The Supreme Court while expressing concern over the law and order situation in Balochistan has observed that it was the foremost duty of the state to provide protection to the citizens which was their basic fundamental right.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry made the observation during hearing of the missing persons case on Monday.
Deputy Advocate General of Balochistan presented a report in the court on behalf of the interior minister about restoration of law and order in the province. Attorney General of Pakistan also appeared before the court.
The chief justice inquired about killing of persons in Balochistan on daily basis and pointed out that a few days earlier DIG Quetta was also made the target and life of the citizens in the province was not safe. The court said that relatives of the missing persons in Balochistan have camped outside the National Press Club and neither the federal nor the provincial government was meeting them.
The court directed the Balochistan chief secretary to meet the relatives of the missing persons and listen to their problems and present a report before the court on Tuesday after getting necessary instructions from the provincial chief minister and the home minister in this connection.—INP
