Help the situation in Balochistan

t is needless to say that Balochistan, which constitutes 44 percent of Pakistans area, suffers from a critical situation. The dumping of Baloch missing persons bodies has intensified the conflict between Balochistan and the state. The Balochistan Assembly is in the eye of a storm of anarchy. The province is totally under the control of the military and intelligence agencies. The unlawful abduction and extra-judicial killings of Baloch students, politicians and journalists has made Balochistan a place of war and battle. The Frontier Corps (FC), in broad daylight, has been known to abduct Baloch students and common citizens. Allegedly, the intelligence agencies are also involved in these gruesome acts. Almost daily, the bodies of Baloch citizens are found riddled with bullets.
The media and judiciary are both silent over this rotten situation. Since last year, abduction cases in Balochistan have increased and frustration is growing among the masses of Balochistan at an alarming level. From April 2010 to April 2011, more than 82 Baloch missing persons have had their deformed bodies received by their family members. The Supreme Court (SC) is responsible for looking after and taking action against such human rights violations in Balochistan. The FC and security agencies ought to be aware that the Baloch are united all over the province and will never be controlled by their coercive tactics; the force of the gun can only go so far.

Balochistan is passing through a very critical and troublesome time. The Baloch have already sought help from the SC to help find the missing Baloch persons and to control the ongoing situation. If the SC remains silent even now and Islamabad does not change its murderous policies, then it will soon see a repetition of what happened in 1971.
