QUETTA: Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani has said that the ruling class in Islamabad was not paying heed towards the grave problems faced by his province.
He expressed these views while taking part in a debate on a resolution in the session of provincial assembly on Monday regarding under construction sections of highway in Balochistan which had been tabled by Jafar Mandokhel of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam.
“No importance is being given to our voice (in Islamabad). As the Chief Minister, I have personally visited offices of Planning & Commission and National Highways Authority (NHA) in Islamabad to enquire about the slow pace of work but got no positive response,” he said, adding that despite the repeated announcements of Prime Minister that no cuts would be imposed on the ongoing projects of Balochistan, officials of the planning and commission asked him when the Prime Minister had actually made such an announcement.
“The provincial government is making all out efforts to normalize the situation in Balochistan but, on the contrary, Islamabad is unwilling to pay attention to our problems,” he regretted.
He wondered how, under the prevailing circumstances, the provincial government could restore the confidence of the angry people of his backward province.
Provincial Ministers and other lawmakers also expressed complete solidarity with Chief Minister and severely criticized the federal government for not paying proper attention on Balochistan’s issues.
Legislators Shah Nawaz Marri, Pir Abdul Qadir Gilani, Ayinullah Shams, Sayed Ehsaan Shah, Habib-ur-Rehman Mohammad Hassani, Maulana Abdul Bari and Asfand Yar Kakar took part in the debate and suggested for holding talks with President and Prime Minister for ensuring funds for ongoing projects. “Matter of non-implementation of resolutions passed by Balochistan Assembly should also be taken with them,” they added.
“We are wasting our time here and our resolutions get no importance in Islamabad and are thrown in dustbins,” they said.
They said that different sections of highways including Khuzdar-Kalat, Quetta -Chaman, Dera Ismail Khan -Zhob,Turbat – Gwadar and Panjgur were under construction for the past several years and unnecessary delay was being made in their completion.
Some members were of the view if attitude of Islamabad was not changed, the people of Balochistan would support those who have opted for armed struggle.
The house unanimously adopted the resolution demanding of the Federal government to allocate funds to ensure early completion of under construction sections of national highways in Balochistan.
Balochistan Assembly also passed another resolution regarding rehabilitation of flood affected people in the province and asked the Federal Government to provide due share of province from aid assistance announced by the International donor agencies. The resolution was tabled by Jaffar Mandokhel of PML-Q.
He had demanded that victims should be given relief amount in cash instead of rebuilding homes through government or NGOs.
The law makers also criticized federal government for not providing funds for flood affected people in order to initiate the rehabilitation process in the province. “The Federal Government had so far provided merely Rs 50 million,” they said.
