CM Raisani Offers Trade Consulates to EU, CARs in Gwadar »

QUETTA, April 06: Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Khan Raisani has offered provision of facilities to European Union and Central Asian states to establish trade consulate in Gwadar, the coastal town of Balochistan, and launching development projects on BOT basis.

He expressed these views in a meeting with French Consul General Christain Ramage who called on him here on Wednesday. Balochistan Ministers Abdul Khaliq Achakzai and Mir Asad Baloch, Chief Secretary Balochistan Mir Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri and Brig. (retd) Abdul Razzaq Baloch were present on this occasion.

“Due to its geo-graphical position and deep sea waters, Gwadar will become hub of commercial activities of the region besides creating opportunities for investment,” CM Raisani said adding that the Balochistan government would welcome and extend its cooperation to the friend countries who would establish trade consulate and initiate uplift projects in this coastal region of Balochistan.

He said that some friend countries had expressed their interest and positively responded to the invitation by the Balochistan government to set up trade consulate in Gwadar. Although wheat and fertilizer were being imported through Gwadar port, however, linking Gwadar port with road and railway network includes the plan to make the port operational and functional in letter and spirit.

Nawab Raisani said that an operational Gwadar port would benefit entire region due to its natural geo-graphical position as Central Asian States, Afghanistan and other neighboring countries would avail facility to promote their import and export trade through this deep sea waters port.

He invited French CG to visit Gwadar port to review suitable environment for investment.

Apprising the Consul General about initiatives being taken to promote education in Balochistan, he said that imparting education to every child of the province was priority of the provincial government adding that adequate funds had been allocated in the budget in this regard.

He told the French Consul General that Balochistan government recruited 5,000 teachers in education sector in prevailing financial year and sanctioned Rs 01 billion funds for upgrading of educational institutions adding that a comprehensive plan had been devised for training of the recruited teachers.

“Balochistan is only province of the country where teachers have been given facility of time scale which has increased their salaries,” the CM Balochistan said adding that management cadre is being introduced and teachers through facilities are being encouraged to focus their attention to impart education to students.

He said that steps were being taken to establish co-education primary schools in the province where female teachers would be appointed.

He said that Balochistan government had demanded of the government to transfer funds of the Higher Education Commission to provinces so that provincial government could provide funds to their universities and scholarships to their students for getting higher education.

He said that Balochistan government had released a grant of Rs 500 million to the universities to overcome their financial difficulties. He said that attention was being paid to improve standard of syllabus and promote research work in education sector adding that proposal to include Arabic language in school syllabus was also being implemented.

He said there were six cadet colleges and three residential educational institutions in Balochistan adding that measures were being taken to establish more cadet colleges and residential educational institutions in order to provide facility of standard education to students of far-flung areas of the province.

He appreciated the Pakistan Army for establishing Military College in Sui town of Balochistan adding that it would bear fruits.

He said that steps were also being taken to prepare trained manpower to get benefits from natural resources of the province adding that Balochistan government and the Pakistan Army had been going to establish vocational and technical training institutes in this regard.

The Chief Minister said there were huge reserves of Uranium, Gold, Copper and other precious minerals in Balochistan adding that steps were being taken to devise a strategy to get benefits from these precious minerals.

He said that all political parties which are include in the coalition government of Balochistan agreed to one agenda of development of their province.

The French Consul General lauded the Balochistan government’s plan to put the province on track of development. He expressed interest in investing in development projects in Balochistan adding that France government would extend its cooperation in the sectors where Balochistan government needed.

He added that he would visit Gwadar port to review opportunities for investment purpose.
