ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Monday summoned Chief Secretary Balochistan to apprise the court what steps have been taken by the provincial government to curb the menace of target killings and maintain law and order situation.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a Constitutional petition of President Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA) against the Federation and the law-enforcement agencies.
President BHCBA Hadi Shakeel Ahmed has made Inspector General Police (IGP), Balochistan, IG Frontier Corps Balochistan, heads of three top intelligence agencies, Federal government through Attorney General of Pakistan, and provincial government through Advocate General Balochistan as respondents. The CJ inquired from Additional Advocate General, Balochistan, Azam Khattak have officials of Federal or the provincial government have visited those Balochis, who are staying put without any assistance in front of Press Club, Islamabad for the last many days.
The Chief Justice directed the AAG to visit them and inquire about their grievances.
He observed that Balochistan law and order situation worsening day by day but nobody is moved, adding, the life of ordinary citizen was not safe in the province.
He stated that DIG police, who lived at police lines in Cantonment area, which is very sensitive area in Balochistan, was attacked last week.
Justice Sair Ali said: ‘There is total lack of planning and policy to deal with the situation’.
