Full shutter down against Quetta police action

Occupied Balochistan, QUETTA: A partial shutter down strike was observed in Quetta city on Friday on the call of Baloch Students Organization (M) in protest against the siege and search operation in outskirts of provincial capital.

Most of the business centres and commercial establishments located at Saryab Road, Brewery Road, Zarghoon Road, Joint Road, Hazar Ganji and adjoining areas remained closed for the day.

There was a partial shutter down strike in the main Commercial District in heart of the areas where some of the shops remained opened functioning normally.

The main cause of anger was the death of a Baloch woman whose son was arrested. She went on shock finding police violating sanctity of her residence arresting her son for committing no crime. Police came under criticism for violating the sanctity of Baloch homes and insulting the woman folks in the siege and search operation, organizers of the strike told newsmen.

BSO claimed that during the siege and search operation more than 300 people were rounded up and sanctity of homes violated. They accused the police and other law enforcement agencies of arresting innocent people as part of the mass harassment campaign.

There was a thin traffic on the main roads and fewer people returned for duty during the day. No untoward incident was reported. The impact of shutter down was felt by the local people. Even some of the eating houses and bakers were closed for the day responding to the strike call of the BSO positively.

Reports coming in from remote parts of the Province, shutter down strike was observed in many townships and human settlement condemning the police action against the innocent and law abiding people. Strike was reported from Khuzdar, Panjgur, Gwadar, Ormara, Bela, Turbat, Pasni, Jiwanri, Kharan, Naushki, Mastung, Mach, Dhaddar and other smaller townships of Central and Southern Balochistan.

The strike was peaceful and orderly by all standards. Most of the markets, business centres, banks and even Government offices in some remote regions were closed during the day responding to the strike call of the BSO. Attendance in the Government offices remained thin in most of the townships and there was very thin traffic on the roads and highway.

Security forces were placed on high alert and were patrolling in most of the sensitive townships of Central Balochistan where the strike was effective and left a deep impact on the daily life of the people.
