Swiss Couple Kidnapped in Loralai

QUETTA: A Swiss couple was kidnapped in Loralai district, about 250-kilometers from Quetta, on Friday.
Balochistan Home Secretary Zafar Baloch confirmed the abduction of the couple. He said that the couple had not informed the provincial government prior to their journey to Balochistan from Punjab. “The couple entered from Dera Ghazi Khan and intended to go to Quetta. I am not sure, but I have been informed that they were tourists,” he added.

“The couple entered the province around 5 pm and registered themselves as husband and wife at a police checkpoint,” official Sohailur Rehman told a foreign news agency. “Their vehicle was found abandoned near Minara near Loarali,” he said. “The police after registering them allowed them to enter into B-Area of Loralai which is being controlled by the Levies Force, Loralai District Police Officer Ghulam Ali Lashari said.
“Unidentified gunmen intercepted the foreigners’ vehicle in Killi Niga within the limits of Levies checkpost of Sirki Jangal area and took them on gun-point to an unknown place,” the police official said, adding that the victims were identified as Ocholivier David and his wife Wipmerderielaay Omer. “Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the entry and exit points of the district,” said Loralai Deputy Commissioner Sohail Rehman.

According to the official, a search operation was being carried out in the area. He said that the purpose of their visit to Balochistan was not clear.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident or contacted authorities about the kidnapped foreigners.
