Balochistan govt to seek Musharraf’s extradition - By: Bari Baloch

QUETTA - The provincial government sought more time from the Balochistan High Court to contact the federal government for the extradition of former president Pervez Musharraf and others nominated accused in the Nawab Akbar Bugti’s murder case.
Balochistan Additional Advocate General Nasrullah Khan Achakzai told the BHC division bench that the provincial government would write a letter to the federal government for the extradition of accused in Bugti murder case by August 2.
Talking to the media outside the court, Jamil Akbar Bugti alleged that the provincial government was deliberately delaying because the political parties which backed the military action in Dera Bugti were in power.
“Though the government is making mockery of democracy, I have expectations from the judiciary that it would bring the culprits to book,” he said, adding that the government was not interested in taking action against the four accused living in the country. His lawyer, Hadi Shakil, alleged the government wanted to eliminate evidence to shield the accused as it did not want to carry out investigation in the case. Former president Musharraf, ex-PM Shaukat Aziz, former Balochistan governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and ex-CM Jam Yousaf have been accused in the case.
Earlier, the court expressed its resentment over lack of interest on the part of government in carrying out investigation.
“If the provincial government does not want to investigate the case, it must inform the court because the federal government has categorically said it will take steps for the extradition of accused if the provincial government makes a formal request but it has not bothered to write a letter to the centre,” the court observed.
Deputy Attorney General Malik Sikandar Khan informed the court that the federal government was ready to contact Interpol for issuing red warrants for the accused abroad but the provincial government had not made any formal request.
The court expressed its concerns over the delay in making request, saying that the Balochistan government was oblivious the man killed in Dera Bugti was Nawab Akbar Bugti.
