Balochi Academy Urges Political Parties To Shun Their Differences, The Baloch Hal News

QUETTA: The Balochi Academy Quetta has demanded of the federal and provincial governments to take notice of the extra-judicial arrests and disappearances of political workers, humiliation of Baloch women and violation of human rights in Balochistan on the part of security forces.

This demand was made in one of the resolutions passed during the annual general body meeting of the Academy held under the chairmanship of its Chairman, Siddiq Baluch here Sunday.

The general body meeting also elected new office bearers for the next three years. The largely attended meeting comprising members from across the country expressed its grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan and called upon the Baloch political parties and groups to shun their petty differences and get united for the welfare and socio-political empowerment of the people.

The meeting also called upon the ministry of information and broadcasting and the PTV authorities to launch Balochi language programs on national network, especially PTV Bolan and other Balochi channels on the cable and in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces reciprocally as, what it said, the other languages were being telecast and broadcast from Balochistan.

The Balochi Academy also called upon the Pakistan Academy of Letters to give due representation to the Academy in its Board of Governors and at the same time criticized the Lok Virsa Islamabad for distortion of Balochi Culture in its Cultural Encyclopedia. The other resolutions passed in the meeting demanded of the authorities concerned to take concrete measures in preservation of archaeological sites and treasures in the province; giving opportunities to Baloch artists in the cultural troupes sent abroad; allocation of sizeable chunk of government advertisements for the Balochi language newspapers and magazines at federal and provincial levels and bringing qualitative changes in the textbooks to project the Balochi language, history art and culture based on facts; and changing the name of Adalat Road to Balochi Academy Road in the provincial metropolis Quetta.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, the outgoing chairman and veteran journalist, Siddiq Baluch expressed his gratitude to the members for reposing full trust during his tenure. Later, the elections were held to choose for the new office bearers under the supervision of a two-member committee comprising Advocate Zahoor Ahmed Shahwani and Syed Abid Shah Abid.

The following office bearers were elected, some of them unopposed, for the next three years: Abdul Wahid Bandeeg, Chairman; Munir Ahmad Jan, Vice Chairman; Aseer Abdul Qadir Shahwani, General Secretary, and Qasim Mengal, Joint Secretary. Besides, seven members were also elected for the executive committee including: Abdullah Baluch; Professor Dr. Abdul Saboor Baluch; Siddiq Baluch; Professor Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir; Mir Anwar Mir Mazar; Zahir Jamaldini, and Muhammad Panah Baloch.
