Complete shutterdown in across Balochistan on Nawab Bugti's Martyrdom anniversary


Occupied Balochistan – Complete shutterdown strike was observed in Quetta and majority of other areas of Balochistan on the eve of 4th death anniversary of Nawab Muhammad Akbar Khan Bugti.

Black Day was also observed on the call of Baloch nationalist parties to mark the death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti who was assassinated on Aug 26, 2006, alongwith a number of his supporters in a military operation in Tartani mountainous area of Kohlu district.

The strike call was given by Baloch Republican Party (BRA) led by Bramdagh Bugti, grandson of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Jamhoori Watan Party and was fully supported by the Baloch National Front, Balochistan National Party (Mengal), National Party and other political parties.

In Quetta, all trading centers and shopping plazas, commercial establishments remained completely shutdown and because of wheel-jam strike very thin traffic was witnessed plying on the roads of the City.

The attendance in the offices also remained very thin while a holiday was observed in all educational institutions. Baloch nationalist parties hoisted black flags at their offices and houses in different towns of Balochistan to condemn the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.
Lawyers community in Balochistan also observed strike throughout the province and did not appear before court proceedings.

Administration had taken strict security steps on this occasion across the province to avert any untoward incident.

In the provincial capital, about 5,000 officials of police, Balochistan Constabulary and Anti-Terrorist Force besides a large number of Frontier Corps personnel had been deployed.

Traffic on Quetta-Karachi, Quetta-Taftan and Quetta-Sibi routes came to a standstill in response to the strike call causing great inconvenience for the commuters to reach their destination.

Shutterdown strikes were also observed in Nushki, Dalbandin, Mastung, Khuzdar,

Hub, Gwadar, Pasni, Panjgur, Kech, Machh, Dhadar, Harnai, Sibi, Kalat, Awaran, Turbat, Dera Bugti and Kharan where people and business community responded to the strike call.
Quran Khawani and references were also held in different towns including Quetta.

President of his own faction of the Jamhoori Watan Party, Talal Akbar Bugti had earlier filed a petition against former President Pervez Musharraf in Nawab Akbar Bugti’s murder case. The concerned authorities were not registering an FIR against Bugti’s murder till the Balochistan High Court ordered them to do so in October 2009.

The incidents of violence were also reported in different parts of Balochistan on the eve of Nawab BugtiÆs fourth death anniversary.

In Khuzdar, two women were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded with a big bang.

Sources said that unidentified people had planted an explosive device on Hospital Road Khuzdar which exploded and wounded two women identified as Ruqia and Qasima. They were shifted to hospital for treatment.

An explosive device planted by unidentified people in Kohlu Bazaar of Kholu district went off with a huge explosion. However, no loss of life was reported in the blast.

In another incident, militants fired a rocket targeting a check post of Frontier Corps in Baseema which landed in isolated area and exploded causing no loss of life and damage to the property.
Unidentified people set ablaze a PTCL cabinet in Awaran due to which it got destroyed and dozens of phones disconnected.
