QUETTA: Fresh canal breaches in Saifullah Magsi Canal and Kirthar Canal has further aggravated the flood situation in the plains of Balochistan and now it is engulfing the part of adjoining Sindh Plain.
There were major breaches in both the canal that had already inundated Usta Mohammad, Ghandakha, Ghari Khairo, Shahdad Kot and flood water moving towards Jhal Magsi. The local officials had issued flood warning for Qubo Saeed Khan, Ghari Khero and Shahdad Kot asking the people to evacuate their residences and commercial establishments before the flash flood destroys their homes, paddy fields and standing crops.
Parts of Jhal Magsi are also facing the threat as flood water rising with full speed.
The reason for the major canal breach in Saifullah Magsi Canal and Kirthar Canal could not be known. But the local residents attribute it to in-competency of the irrigation officials as they failed to pre-empt the canal breaches when all the flood gates of major barrages were wide opened to allow the super flood to pass withput destroying the basic infrastructure.
The road link between district Jhal Magsi and rest of the country has been disrupted after highway inundated in floodwater. The power supply of Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, and Rojhan Jamali also remained suspended. Balochistan’s rail link with Sindh could not be restored for the fifth consecutive days.
Talking to Balochistan Express in Sibi, one of the affected said around 400 people are still marooned in Shahmir Rind village of Jaffarabad. He said government should expedite its efforts to take them safer places.
A special shuttle train service is also busy taking marooned people from Jaffarbad to safer grounds in Sibi.
Talking to Journalists, Deputy Commissioner of Jhal Magsi, Shaukat Murgazani said that some villages in Jhal Magsi, including Ghot Shambani, Ghot Jhoki and Bari Jah had already been evacuated owing to anticipation of flash floods. He said that communication network between Jhal Magsi and rest of the country had been disrupted for the past 24 hours.
According to Frontier Crops (FC) Balochistan, ten loaded trucks carrying three hundred tons of rations had been sent to flood-stricken districts on Tuesday. The rations include flour, rice, sugar and other edibles. 2, 500 blankets, 300 tents, and medicine worth of Rs 0.2 million were also dispatched.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), 2500 soldiers of Pakistan Army and 1, 000 soldiers of FC are engaged in relief operations in various affected areas of Balochistan and five helicopters are busy in rescue operations.
The Pakistan Army had set up five relief camps where people are being provided relief goods, rations, clean drinking water and other necessities of life. 35 loaded trucks carrying relief goods had arrived Sibi.
Talking to media men, Colonel of FC headquarter, Rustum Ali has said that soldiers are engaged to take the marooned people to safer places.
It may mention a large number of affected people taking shelter in Quetta, Naushki, Mastung and other districts of Balochistan.
Three relief camps have been set up in Quetta where more than 1500 families have been shifted getting relief assistance.
