QUETTA: Hundreds of flood affected suffering from waterborne disease have been admitted in government-run hospitals in Sibi, Bolan and other districts.
Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Sibi Doctor Abdul Jabbar informed media that around 40 people suffering from waterborne diseases had been brought to the government hospital Sibi.
“Majority of the patients are minors who are aged two to eight years,” he said adding that they were being treated in a proper manner and situation was “under control”.
EDO Bolan, Abdul Rehman Bugti, said that water borne diseases broke out in different parts of Bolan district where the flood-victims took shelter.
“Seventy patients suffering from waterborne diseases have been admitted in government run hospitals of Bhag, Dhaddar and Mach,” he confirmed. However, he said that affected people were being provided medical aid and the condition of patients was stable.
Doctors attending the patients at different government hospitals said that the supply of medicine in this emergency was inadequate and social activists in the area condemned the attitude of the Secretary Health and Director-General Health for being “biased” towards the child patients suffering from water borne diseases.
A few days ago, the Director-General, Health had claimed that medicine of few hundred thousand rupees had been dispatched and he had ruled out the outbreak of water borne diseases in flood affected regions of Balochistan.
Now the Pakistan Army has dispatched 12 medical teams, two of which comprise of female doctors. The army has established field hospitals in the flood affected regions. The Provincial Health Department employing thousands of doctors, most of them qualified, has failed to establish a single field hospital equipped with medicine in any part of Naseerabad Division, complained the local residents.
