Balochistan situation tense after the cold-blooded murder of Baloch lawyer

Occupied Balochistan: There is a sense of anger among people of Balochistan and the situation has become tense after the tortured and bullet riddled body of Baloch Lawyer Ali Sher Kurd was recovered from Khuzdar. The eye-witnesses have said that advocate Ali Sher Baloch was subjected to brutal torture prior to his ruthless killing. “Parts of his body were burnt with cigarettes and there scares carved with a sharp object on his body and it is suspected one of his arm was also broken”. Like previous victims of state terrorism Mr. Kurd was also shot in the head, presumably, after he has already died of torture. It should be recalled that Mr. Ali Sher Kurd who was a resident of Mach Bolan was abducted from Quetta while he was visiting a friend.

The news of Baloch lawyer’s brutal murder quickly spread across Balochistan. Lawyers and activists of the Baloch Students Organisation (BSO-azaad) arrived at the Hospital to receive the body of Baloch writer and lawyer Ali Sher Kurd.

The Baloch youth took out number of protest rallies in different town and city of Balochstan including Khuzdar, Kalat and Quetta. Protesters also blocked the RCD Highway, disrupting traffic between Quetta and Karachi for several hours. It is worth noting that over 20 bullet-riddled bodies have so far been found in Balochistan since July 24 this year. All of them were killed in a similar manner.

The lawyer’s body was found on the eve of Balochistan Bar Association’s province-wide protests calling for his safe recovery. “We were staging a strike for the safe recovery of Ali Sher Kurd and Mir Ahmed Mirwani. After this incident, we will intensify our protest,” bar association president Baz Mohammad Kakar said. He said this was the second incident in which a lawyer had been brutally murdered.“Lawyer Mirwani is still missing and under such circumstances there is a possibility that the culprits will (also) dump his body soon without the fear of punishment,” he added.

Kakar said that family members of kidnapped lawyers believe that the lawyers had been kept hostage by personnel of security forces and intelligence agencies and they were the ones who had killed him. “If these institutions are not involved in hostage-taking, they must clarify their positions because it is their prime responsibility to ensure the safety of life and property of the people,” he said. Lawyers in Balochistan have been protesting against the killings for the past two months.

Two of the three kidnapped lawyers, Munir Ahmed Mirwani, Zaman Mari and Ali Sher Kurd, have been found. Munir Ahmed has been missing for the past three months and police are yet to trace his whereabouts. Earlier, the bullet-riddled body of Zaman Marri was found from Mastung. He was kidnapped from Quetta on July 18.

Meanwhile Baloch Women Panel staged a protest demonstration in front of Quetta against the extra judicial killing of lawyer Sher Ali Kurd. A large number of Baloch women and children took part in the demonstration. Addressing the crowd and the media the sister of Shaheed Ali Sher Kurd said that “if the state [Pakistan] thinks it can eliminate the Baloch liberation struggle, or the freedom fighters will abandon their struggle, by brutally murdering my brother then it is gravely mistaken. We are proud of our brother’s sacrifices because he was struggling for a great cause”.

She further said that the Baloch enemy was not capable of weakening the liberation struggle any longer as every Baloch will become Ali Sher Kurd Baloch. Balochistan is an occupied territory and we will continue to struggle for its liberation without any hesitation, she added. The sister of Ali Sher Kurd said that “The inhuman torture on my brother and throwing away his bullet riddled body has exposed the very nature of Pakistani barbarism”.

Activists of BRP Zehri region have also protested against the brutal murder of the Baloch lawyer. They paid homage to Mr. Kurd and sacrifices made by him. The BRP activists urged the Baloch Nation to unite and raise voice against the state atrocities in Balochistan.

Families of Baloch abducted activists who have been sitting on protest in front of Quetta press club for past many month have also joined the protest rally against the murder of Ali Sher Kurd Baloch. They said that their concerned about the well being of their loved ones is growing day by day as the Pakistani intelligence agencies continues dumping the tortured and bullet riddled bodies of Baloch abducted person. They once again urged the Baloch Diaspora to intensify their struggle against the gross human rights violations in Balochistan on International forums.
