Protests held in Islamabad and Quetta against Sher Ali’s Killing

Islamabad police and journalists ganged up to beat Baloch protesters as the capital of Pakistan echoed with "DOWN WITH PAKISTAN" slogans.

ISLAMABAD: Various left wing and nationalist organisations including Baloch Student Federation staged a protest on Monday at National Press Club (NPC) to condemn the abduction, torture and subsequent murder of Ali Sher Kurd, a Baloch lawyer, writer and poet. BSO Islamabad and Baloch Women Panel, a Quetta based Organisation of Baloch women, had given the call for protest against extra judicial abductions and killing of Baloch activists by Pakistan intelligence Agencies and Military Intelligence in Balochistan.

Kurd was abducted on the evening of September 20 from the house of relatives in Quetta. His body was found three days later in district Khuzdar, with marks of severe torture on various parts of his body.

The protestors chanted slogans against the intelligence agencies that they believe are responsible for the death of Kurd along with 16 other persons who were abducted and murdered only in the last two months.

The protestors vociferously condemned the increasing incidents of ‘disappearances’ of Baloch people belonging to all walks of life and criticised the role of the military in Balochistan, which instead of providing security to the citizens has only created resentment and mistrust amongst the Balochs, they said.

Tributes were paid to the scores of Baloch martyrs and ‘missing persons’ who have been subjected to the worst forms of state brutality merely for speaking out in defence of the rights and dignity of the Baloch people.

According to reports published on Balochistan National Newspapers and independent sources some Islamabad based Pakistani journalist and Islamabad police ganged up against the Baloch protester when they chanted slogans against Pakistan and its security forces. Several students have been badly beaten up by the Police and journalists. The journalists have also reportedly used abusive language against protesters and boycotted the protest and Police has registered cases against Baloch students for practicing their democratic right to protest.

Quetta Protest: On the other hand BSO Azad staged a protest before Quetta press club against the state violence in Balochistan and recovery of the mutilated dead bodies of Baloch young Ali Sheer Kurd and Zaman Mari here on Monday.

Addressing to the protesters speakers said that recovery of the decomposed bodies of Baloch people are proving it that Baloch have intensified the freedom struggle and started a defiance movement of against state atrocities.

They said that we would continue our political and democratic efforts to against state terrorism. They urged the Baloch masses to unite and spent their energy struggling for the freedom of Balochistan rather than fighting for petty issues.
