Balochistan’s new wave of genocide

As Baloch activist Mahdim Baloch describes it “We (Baloch) are facing a very slow, but calculated genocide on the part of Pakistan government..” there is no doubt Balochistan is bleeding while the past and present governments of Pakistan continues to deny such facts; it keeps violating the United Nations Charter of Rights and international law, overwhelmingly majority of Baloch nation believes it is time for the United Nations and International Community to step in and stop any further bleeding of Balochistan.

According to Dawn Pakistan leading English newspaper, recent reports on September 2nd, 2009 the United States Congressional delegation met with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari , Senator Carl Levin, and Jack Reed on behalf of the US senate Armed Services Committee and Edward Kaufman from United States Foreign Relations Committee. The US senator’s delegations placed emphasis Pakistan’s government for “complete peace in Balochistan”. The senators asked “to settle all outstanding issues with Baloch people” The Senators further made it clear that “The US believes that peace in Balochistan is imperative to winning the ‘war on terror’ because Pakistani security agencies will remain engaged in the Balochistan province.” Since the 5th military operation in Balochistan from March 2005, which is still in progress, these Pakistani forces such as Pakistan Army, the Frontier Corps FC, Inter-Services Intelligence [ISI] and Military Intelligence [M1] are busy in Balochistan kidnapping, torturing and killing Baloch political leaders, activists, students and innocent Baloch while many Baloch families have no idea about their loved ones and their whereabouts.

On the other hand Asian Human Rights Commission released a press release on September 2, 2009 its statement says” Pakistan: police threaten indiscriminate revenge killing in Balochistan”

The prime example is on September 6th 2009 the state Frontier Corp FC, indiscriminately fired on a peaceful student rally at Tump, killed a 20 year old college student Mukhtar Ahamed Baloch. A week before on August 31st, 2009 the inhumane acts of the Pakistani intelligence against Baloch leaders Rasool Baksh Mengal (Balochistan National Movement) His dead body was left hanging on a tree in Lasbela area after being abducted on August 23rd, 2009. Similarly on April 3rd, 2009 the Pakistani intelligence agencies kidnapped Mir Ghulam Mohammed Baloch in broad daylight (Chairman of Balochistan National Movement) along with his fellow Baloch leaders, Lala Munir Baloch and Sher Mohammed Baloch from inside their lawyer’s office in Turbat. This was conducted by Pakistani intelligence agencies then they were inhumanly murdered and their decomposed bodies were found on April 8th, 2009 in the hills of Murgab, some thirty kilometers away from where they were kidnapped.Â

Obliviously, these are not signs of reconciliation and negotiation from Islamabad with Baloch leaders. Islamabad has never been sincerely interested in building bridges between Balochistan and federal government in its 62 years of existence. Their track record proves their mistrust and betrayal.

Therefore, Baloch leaders strongly reacted against their fellow leader’s murders and indiscriminate killing of civilian in Balochistan. As Baloch leader Dr. Jahanzeb Jamaldini stated in Daily Intekhab ( A Balochistan Newspaper) If there were any room for negotiation then the decomposed bodies of Baloch leaders of Turbat and swinging dead body of Baloch leaders on the tree in Lasbela would not be seen, rulers left no path for negotiation and he further stated that Baloch nation have the strength to carry their dead bodies of their leaders on their shoulder but they will never let the state and its Institutions to fulfill its (evil) dream. Baloch nation has a strong will and that will be stronger than acts of terrorism against Balochistan.

Baloch National Front (BNF) and its leaders stressed in their statement when there is a settler (non-Baloch) in Balochistan who going to be killed the President, the Prime Minister, the Interior Minister, the Chief Minister, The Governor, and all of Pakistan media starts an awe and cry but when a Baloch Nationalist leader was inhumanly tortured, martyred and his dead body was left hanging on the tree. We saw along with the pro-Pakistani media the rulers, the religious parties and its leader’s that all were silence. These forces are hardly speaking up against the state atrocities towards Baloch leaders, they reminded the rulers that “Baloch nation is fighting for their independence; we have nothing to do with the rulers and its political parties and collaborators.”

Similarly, a Baloch Munir Mengal who has been victim of inhuman treatment and torcher himself in the hand of Pakistani forces, now lives abroad and attended as a special Guest at Hamburg, Germany invited by “ Nacht Der Median” [Media Night Hamburg Germany] where about 1200 media personalities were present and told about Balochistan bleeding situation by stating “ I have briefed the German Media about Balochistan..That Baloch are not terrorists but they are victims of state sponsored terrorism.” He told the popular Baloch Website Balochwarna.org on September 6, 2009. Â

It is state terrorism when Baloch political leaders are kidnapped and then killed by Pakistani intelligence agencies, It’s state terrorism when its intelligence agencies in daylight kidnapped Baloch leaders are inside the courts and in their lawyer’s office, it is state terrorism when Pakistani agencies harassed, threatened and humiliated the Baloch leading newspaper Daily Assap staff. And because of their safety and security they have been forced to shut down their paper in Quetta, capital city of Balochistan. It’s terrorism when Baloch journalists are threatened not to write with free conscious mind about Balochistan. Hence, Baloch leaders, journalists, and activists have no rights to freedom of expression. The fact of the matter is that in the 21st century Pakistani rulers cannot continue to hide their atrocities against the Baloch nation, as to hide the sun with your hands.

Therefore, it is the moral duty of the united nation and international community to step in and to help the Baloch nation and its leaders to regain their sovereignty. This is the only way Balochistan can stop its bleeding from the past till now. Pakistan has had 62 years to negotiate, but in those 62 years they have made it quite evident that their intentions do not have any noble causes and therefore have run out of time. It’s time for the Baloch to regain their sovereignty that was stolen from them decades ago, yet they see no sign of promises or progress till today in the hands of their occupiers.
