University Lecturer Target Killed in Quetta

QUETTA:  A lecturer of the University of Balochistan was gunned down by unidentified attackers on Tuesday in an apparent  incident of targeted killing, taking the total number of university professor to five who have been murdered in the recent times in the province.
According to police, Danish Ali,32, a lecturer of Computer Science in University was on his way from his residence in Nawa-e-Killi when two unknown assailants opened indiscriminate fire on him in Zarghoon housing area. He lost his life on the spot because of multiple wounds. The attackers managed to escape their good escape after killing ofuniversity teacher.
Police took the corpse into custody and moved it to Civil Hospital Quetta for autopsy. After completion of legal formalities, the dead body was shifted to an imambargah at Allamdar Road. No group has claimed responsibility of the killing however, some police sources told The Nation that this could be an incident of sectarian targeted killing.
The Balochistan University will remain close on Wednesday against in the mourning of Danish Ali.
The Academic Staff Association of Balochistan University has strongly condemned the killing of university teacher and announced a-three day mourning against the killing.
Prior to Tuesday’s tragic incident four other teachers , including pro-vice chancellor Safar Kiyani, Professor Kursheed Ansari, Professor Nazima Talib andProfessor Saba Dashtiyari Baloch have fallen prey to targeted killings.
This situation has sent a wave of fear amongst the university and so far more than 70 teachers, including 40 PhD degree holders have left the university.
Strongly condemning the killing of Danish Ali president Academic Staff Association Professor Kaleemulllah Barech has said that the feeling of insecurity has compelled the university teachers to quit it.  He said that quitting of more than 70 teachers has pushed the university towards a serious crisis.
He feared that if proper measures were not taken for protection of universityteachers then all experienced teachers would quit the university.
He asked government authorities to fulfill their responsibilities and take required measures for protection of teachers.
