Families of Baloch force-disappeared on hunger strike in front of Karachi press club

Karachi: The relatives of abducted Baloch set up a token hunger strike camp in front of Karachi press to demand the immediate recovery the forced-disappeared Baloch. The VMBP (Voice for Missing Baloch Person) along with the family members of the missing Baloch have organised this hunger strike camp.

Mother of Wadood Raisani Baloch, and family member of Zakir majeed, Dr Deen Mohammad Baloch, Najeeb Qambarani, Jalil Reki, Ali Ashagar Bangulzai, Ghaffar langove, Mushtaq Baloch, Sangat Sana Baloch, Mujeeb Baloch, Sameeullah Mengal, Abdul Hayee Bangulzai, Master yahya, Abdul Karim Baloch, and Laiqat Bugti Baloch participated in the hunger strike protest. They were demanding for the recovery and immediate release of all missing person from Balochistan.

BRP’s leader Wadood Raisani’s mother has said that her son has spent almost last 10 years in prisons and none of the cases against him has been proved. He was released 20 days ago but his freedom was short lived as he has been rearrested from Mastung. He is missing from last 20 days. She said that they have contacted the local police and asked about the charges against Mr Wadood Raisani but the local authorities were unaware of any charges against him.

The mother of Baloch leader further said that all the governments have been cruel and unjust to the people of Balochistan because Baloch have started to raise their voice for their rights. “For asking for our right these agencies men enter our homes, ill-behave with our children and women and plunder our house” He explained.

The father of Jalil Reki another leader of BRP, Mr Abdul Qadeer Baloch has said that the announcement of the so called package was a deception with the Baloch people. The government has never contacted the families of Baloch abducted persons and that both the Prime Minister and the President of Pakistan were helpless in front of the powerful agencies [ISI & MI].

He further said that since the announcement of the package all Baloch mother, sister and other relatives of the missing persons have been waiting for the return of their loved ones. “The family member pass their night hoping that their loved ones will come home next morning because the PM has announced their release but all in vain” he complained. Mr Qadeer Baloch went on to say that the helpless Chief Minister of Balochistan once has said that agencies have abducted the missing Baloch but later he retracted from his statement and said that he never blamed the agencies.

It must be noticed that on 24 November 2009 the Pakistani parliament had announced a package for Balochistan. As a part of the Package it was said that all political activists will be recovered and released except those involved in “heinous crimes”. [But none of the missing persons have been released and it seems none of the Items of the so called package has been implemented. The package however has been rejected by the leaders and the people of Balochistan.]

The chairman of VMBP Mr Nasrullah Baloch has said that they have time and again said that none of the missing persons have been released. “We have always said that if there are any cases against the forced-disappeared Baloch then they must be presented the court of law and should be given the right to a fair trial”. He further said that they wanted to tell the International Community that during the period of the democratic government and the so called free judiciary the atrocities against the Baloch are still going on. “None of the Baloch political activists have been released as part of package in fact more and more people are disappearing on regular bases” he charged.

Hunger-strike camp for missing persons

KARACHI - As many as 8,000 Baloch nationals including 143 women are missing and there is no let up in abduction of the Balochs despite notifications issued by the prime minister, said the Chairman of the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons Mr Nasrullah.

He expressed these views thronged by participants of a hunger-strike camp staged outside the Press Club on Thursday for the release of the missing persons. Nasrullah told The Nation that the camp was the part of the protest for the missing persons that had been abducted by the intelligence agencies and a long march would be held on February 10 in Balochistan that he said would culminate at the province’s chief minister and governor.

He said that despite the present rule the democracy and the independent judiciary, the human rights violations were still going on unchecked. He appealed the high-ups and other international human rights organisations to take notice of the alarming situations. The claimed most of the missing persons were being held by secret agencies.

  1. Sir here is my edited writing below please post it on your blog.
"Social and economic deprivation is fuelling insurgency in the province, not Indian meddling as routinely pointed out by the state.

Baloch grievances are deep and should rightly be addressed so as to bring peace in the province. The government should introduce major educational and developmental projects to boost the educational and economic standard of the Baloch. It should ensure, likewise, provision of basic necessities to poor people across the province.
It is unfortunate that many districts of Balochistan lack even the most prime necessities of life like water and healthcare. Such an acute sense of deprivation is fomenting trouble in Balochistan and in turn fuelling insurgency.
Pointing fingers at foreign meddling and Indian involvement won’t solve the political problem of Balochistan. Its problem is not a security issue; it is purely political and should be dealt properly and politically."

  2. Sir. Here is an other edited writing of mine pertaining to missing persons issue, originally published in "Dawn". Please post it on your blog. Below is the edited writing.
"Forced disappearance is a serious issue in the country and it is more serious when it takes place in Balochistan. When the much-vaunted ‘Balochistan package’ was announced, there were hopes that now the government would take serious efforts vis-à-vis recovery of missing persons.
But this was just a daydream as not a single step was taken regarding it.
Instead more people continue to disappear.
Extreme indifference of higher authorities towards this matter of great concern, which has political implications as well, is further alienating the already hard-pressed Baloch and vitiating the already tense atmosphere across the province.
The government must show some seriousness towards the missing persons’ issue if it is at all serious about resolving the ‘Balochistan problem’.

  3. Sir here is an other edited writing f mine regarding forced disappearance in Balochistan, originally published in "DAWN". below is the dited writing please Publish it on your blog. regards.
"‘Forced disappearance’ is seriously common in Balochistan. The numbers of the people who disappeared in the province vary, but it is alleged that more than 1,000 people are missing, allegedly have been picked up by secret agencies.
Disappearance of political and student activists are a serious problem the province is plagued with recently. The involvement of secret agencies in these cases of involuntary disappearances amount to state terrorism.
The Supreme Court must do something to restrain the role of secret agencies in provincial affairs and should try to stop what is termed ‘state terrorism’ and serious human rights violations, allegedly being carried out at the hands of state secret agencies.
All suspects should enjoy the right of legal procedures and should be produced before court. The SC should take urgent steps to stop this menace in Balochistan.

    Baloch rights

Sir: The analysis presented by Mir Muhammad Ali Talpur in ‘Anti-Baloch clique? — I’ (Daily Times, January 16, 2010) is completely accurate. The so-called instrument of accession of the Kalat state (now Balochistan) was signed under duress. The people of Balochistan had never opted for Pakistan. Balochistan was forcefully made a part of Pakistan as Pakistan’s military landed in Balochistan on March 27, 1948, occupying the entire Kalat state. The subsequent treatment meted out to the Baloch was simply colonial. They were denied even the basic necessities of life and share in their own resources. Considering historical realities and the subsequent behaviour of the rulers of Pakistan, the Baloch people are well within their rights to demand a ‘separate homeland’.
