Karachi, London, Toronto: glowing tributes were paid to Qandeel-e-Baloch professor Saba Dashtyari on his Chehlum. Syed Hashumi Reference Library in Karachi, Baloch Diaspora in London and Canada organised memorial gathering in this regard.
According to details large number of people from all walks of life participated in the meeting. Intellectuals and scholars shed light on Saba Dasthiyari struggle for Balochi language. Program started with recitation of Holy Q¬¬uran and a minute of silence in respect of the Baloch Martyred scholar. In the opening speech Khalil Baloch described the aims and objectives of Library. He said that that Saba Dashtyari struggle for fifteen years to collect the scattered pieces of literature of Baloch, Balochi and Balochistan to build the library where a treasure of knowledge is stored. He (Saba) also attracted the Baloch people to used and benefit from this treasure. Talking about the future of the library Khalid Baloch said that the Library projects include establishing of ‘’Encyclopedia Balochistanika” and “Professor Saba Zind Zanti Banjal”.
Addressing the gathering Vice president of Library Ms Maryam Baloch has said that Ustad Sabad Dashtyari has shown the Baloch their path of future. “It is our responsibility to complete the mission of our martyred comrade”.
Famous Baloch intellectual and poet Abid Aaskani dedicated a poem to Saba Dashtiyari. Giving Professor Saba the title of the Socrates of the 21 Century the Baloch poet said that professor Saba Dashtyari even defeated the Socrates of before Christ. He said Saba has defeated death and recorded his place in the history. “Ideologies cannot be eliminated by physical separation in fact they become even significant. If we didn’t have the help and support of Saba Dashtyari we would never be able to complete Syed Zahoor Shah’s compiled “Syed Ganj [dictionary]”.
Well-known Baloch poet, Waja Bashir Beydaar, said that contemporary intellectuals are fearful of writing the truth but Saba had always not only written the truth but he also spoke truth without fearlessly. He further said “those who fear death, they die every day and those who do not fear death live forever”.
Prominent Baloch historian and Library’s research associate Dr Hameed Baloch in his tributes to Saba Ghulam Hussain Dashtyari said that “He man born in backward area of Maripur in 1953 has spread the lights of education in Balochistan as well as everywhere around the world where Baloch reside today”. He further said that Saba Dashtyari worked very hard and endured immense difficulties to build the library.
Other speakers included Raheem Mehr of Lahore University, Ustaad Rakhman Lapari, young Hani Abdul Wahid and Rabia Iqbal. Several people from Karachi, Balochistan and other areas of Sindh have come to pay their tributes of Professor Saba Dashtyari.
On the same [10 July 2011] memorial meetings were held in London and Canada to pay respects to professor Dashtyari where prominent Baloch leaders spoke about the life and sacrifices of the martyred professor. London memorial meeting was organised by Baloch Human Rights Council (UK) in collaboration with Balochistan Raaji Zrombesh, Balochistan Liberation Organisation, Balochistan peoples Party and Balochistan United Front Federal. Whereas in Canada’s Toronto Baloch Human Rights Council (Canada) and International Voice for Baloch Missing Persons organised a memorial gathering.
