Ministers Walk Out Of Ba Over Khuzdar Killings By Malik Siraj Akbar

QUETTA: Two ministers walked out of the Balochistan Assembly (BA) session on Monday in protest against the killing of two Baloch nationalists at a protest rally in Khuzdar last week.

Balochistan Minister for Irrigation Sardar Aslam Bizenjo and Minister for Mines and Minerals Abdul Rehman Mengal protested on a point of order the incident in Khuzdar, where two Baloch nationalists were killed and four others were injured. Bizenjo said the FC's firing on peaceful protesters was a classic case of "state-sponsored terrorism".

Committee: "The killing of Baloch nationalists in Khuzdar is a very tragic incident. The government must immediately formulate a judicial committee to inquire into the matter. The families of those who were killed and wounded should be compensated," Bizenjo demanded. He said the government had announced the Balochistan package to redress the grievances of the Baloch people, but the FC's killing of Baloch nationalists was likely to alienate the people and thwart the successful implementation of the Balochistan package.

Referring to the Balochistan package, the minister alleged that not a single missing person had been released by the government, as promised under the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package.

Blaming FC Inspector General (IG) Major General Saleem Nawaz for the Khuzdar killings, Mengal said it would be extremely difficult to establish the government's writ in Balochistan and normalise the situation in the province, as long as Nawaz continued to serve as the FC IG. Later, both ministers staged a walk out from the House to denounce the Khuzdar killings, which has led to strong condemnation of the federal government and massive protests across the province by Baloch nationalists.

Speaking on behalf of the provincial government, Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd Gilo said the government had already ordered an investigation into the killings through the Ministry of Home and Tribal affairs. The incident took place at a time when Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani had not been in the province. The minister said the government would bear all medical expenses of the treatment of those injured in the Khuzdar episode. They would be treated at the Agha Khan Hospital in Karachi, he added.

Resolution: Meanwhile, the BA session, chaired by BA Speaker Mohammad Aslam Bhoothani, passed two resolutions demanding the provision of gas to all district headquarters of the province, and the reinstatement of all employees of the Mari Gas Company. Balochistan Minister for Jails Sultan Tareen said the Mari Gas Company had fired 60 daily wage labourers from Hernani area without any prior notice. Another resolution tabled by Mir Abdul Rehman Mohammad Hasani recommended that the Ministry of Petroleum should ensure the supply of gas to every district headquarter in Balochistan.
