Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has demanded of the government to immediately stop the operation in Balochistan, including the one being conducted in Jaffarabad.

Addressing a reception via telephone on Tuesday at the Lal Qila Ground, Azizabad for the people of Balochistan, Hussain also demanded of the government to immediately trace or recover all missing persons of Balochistan, and to immediately release those incarcerated.

While referring to the injustices meted out to Baloch people, Hussain said that the only way to keep Balochistan within the Pakistani federation is by initiating dialogue with the people of Balochistan. He stressed that the government should not have a discussion with those Baloch who support the government, but also talk with those who are “in the hills.”

Hussain said that if the United States, a super power, is compelled to have a dialogue with the Taliban, then why is the Pakistani government not initiating dialogue with their Baloch brethren, adding that the rulers should accept the rights of Balochistan people.

The MQM chief said that the rights of the Baloch people have been usurped, while many Baloch continue to remain unemployed and live their lives below the poverty level. He said that due to this situation, the Baloch people are annoyed – understandably so – and it is imperative for the government to take an initiative to resolve these issues.

Hussain said that there are always good and bad people in every community, but an entire community cannot be branded as “bad.”. He said that more than 3,000 activist, who had acted against party discipline, had been expelled from the party. He said that the MQM was not against any particular nation, but was against feudal lords.

The MQM chief pledged that if the MQM formed the government at the federal level, then it will resolve all the problems of Baloch people within six months. He said that whenever the rights of the Baloch people have been usurped, the MQM was the only party to raise a voice for the rights of Baloch people.

The MQM chief recalled that during Army rule, he had always slated the Army operation in Balochistan. He said that conspiracies are being hatched to pit the Baloch people against the MQM, but both, the Baloch people and the MQM workers, would foil all such conspiracies.

Hussain said that every Baloch is fully aware about the identity of the perpetrators of the Lyari gang war, but all of a sudden, the gang war was being attributed to the MQM. He asked the guests of the reception if they had ever seen any clash between the Baloch people and the MQM in Karachi, to which they unanimously replied in the negative.

Sindh Human Rights Minister Nadia Gabol also spoke on the occasion.
