Pakistani and Iranian forces to jointly patrol on Balochistan border

QUETTA: Frontier Corps Balochistan and Iranian Border Force will be jointly patrolling Pak-Iran border to check illegal movement, according to a DawnNews report on Tuesday.

Official sources told DawnNews that joint patrolling of FC and Iranian Border Force was decided during a Joint Border Commission meeting held in December 2009 in Zahedan.

The fortnightly patrolling would help stopping smugglers and criminals from using the border. The officials said that a communication hotline would also be established between the two countries at the Pak-Iran border to ensure timely coordination.

They said that besides representatives of forces, civilian representatives of the two countries would also participate in the patrolling. This joint patrolling has come more than three months after the suicide attack in Pishin area of Iranian Sistan-Balochistan.

FC is not under govt’s control: Chief Minister Raisani

QUETTA, January 19: The Chief of Sarawan and the Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani has said that the Chief Justice of the High Court of Balochistan would probe into the incident of firing on students in Khuzdar, adding, the implementation of Aghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan has not started yet.

Nawab Raisani while talking to a group of journalists here Tuesday maintained that he had tried several times to divert the attention of the Federal Government towards the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan where the Frontier Corps (FC) being not in the control of the Provincial Government, due to which issues were flaring up instead of calming down.

The Chief Minister maintained that conspiracies were being hatched to barricading the reconciliation process in the Province while the FC had established a parallel government, which, he added, was worsening the situation.

About the Aghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan package, he said it had no such section, which could be appreciated as the package recommended the handing over the control of the Frontier Corps to the Provincial government but, as a matter of, had not been implemented so far.

He was of the view that if any federal agency lifts any person, then he should be presented before the court of law within 24 hours and warned that the situation would be worsen further if such situation continues.

Raisani demanded of the Federal Government to follow the recommendations of the Provincial government and directed the intelligence agencies to cooperate with the Provincial government.

He said that the Federal Government would have to take seriously the affairs of Balochistan because, he added, he was the Chief Minister of a coalition government vis-à-vis a worker of the PPP. “Therefore, it is necessary for the reconciliation policy to discourage forces destroying affairs in the province,” Nawab Raisani maintained.

Some political circles in Balochistan, he added, had expressed concerns over the Aghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan and issues like handing over Gwadar Port to Balochistan Government and the cancellation of Rekodik agreement. “These are few issues to which the Federal Government was giving a cold shoulder,” he said and “which is going into the favour of those elements maintaining from the beginning that Federation is adopting delaying tactics in Balochistan.”

He said that the hurdles created by the Planning Commission and the Islamabad’s bureaucracy in several projects of Balochistan were tantamount to plunging the province into further crises instead of causing any improvement.

FC running parallel govt, says Raisani

QUETTA: Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani has accused the Frontier Corps of running a parallel government in Balochistan.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the chief minister said that FC’s attitude had harmed the ongoing reconciliation process and, as a result, the situation had worsened.

“The FC has established a government paralled to the provincial government,” he said.
