Volunteers make effort to take out a body from the rubble of a restaurant in Dera Allahyar that collapsed after a powerful explosion.
QUETTA: At least 15 people were killed and 33 injured in a remote-controlled bomb blast in a roadside restaurant in Dera Allahyar, the district headquarters of Jaffarbad district, on Sunday.
“Unknown men had placed explosive material in the roadside restaurant located on Balochistan-Sindh national highway and detonated it when passengers sitting in both stories were eating mid-day meal,” senior police officer Javed Garsheen said. The two-story building of the restaurant collapsed as a result of the blast.
Personnel of law enforcement agencies rushed to the site after the incident. However, locals had voluntaril started operations to evacuate bodies and the injured from the rubble of the collapsed building.
According to sources in the district administration, some 35 kilogram ofexplosives were used in the blast.
A previously unknown shadowy group, Baloch Liberation Tigers, claimed responsibility for the incident. Miran Baloch, a spokesman of the group, called media outlets, saying that there had been a ceremony to celebrate theindependence day of Pakistan. Baloch warned that people attending events related to Pakistan’s independence day would be targeted.
Further investigations are underway.
