QUETTA: At least 19 oil-tankers carrying fuel for Nato forces in neighboring Afghanistan were set ablaze on Monday in Dasht area of district Mastung, some 50 kilometers south of here, when unidentified armed men on motorbikes opened fire on the convoy of vehicles of Nato supplies. However, no casualty was reported.
According to details, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. in the Gwanden area of Dasht Tehsil in district Mastung when 23 oil-tankers were parked along Quetta-Sibi Highway.
Four other oil-tankers remained partially damaged in the incident.
After receiving information about the incident, Levies Force of Dasht reached the site and called for a fire truck from Quetta which failed to extinguish the fire and 19 oil-tankers were damaged.
The highway remained blocked for several hours due to which hundreds ofvehicles remained stranded, causing problems for the passengers.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. However, Mastung has witnessed a surge in attacks on Nato-supplies in recent months due to its close proximity to Pashtun areas of the province in the north which are believed to be safe havens for Afghan Taliban who easily cross a porous Durand Line, theinternational border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
