Finance Minister Gailo Inaugurates Historic Sibi Festival

SIBI, March 03: Balochistan’s historic cultural festivals and trade promotion programs enhance national harmony amongst people, said Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd Gailo while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Sibi Festival here on Thursday.

“Although raging floods had put bad impacts on normal life activities in the region but participants of people in Sibi Festival is a symbol of their love with their culture and historical Sibi Festival,” the Minister said adding that the festival would bear fruits in shape of boosting livestock business of the province. He said foreign traders from neighboring countries Iran and Afghanistan also participated in the festival which represented our cultural values.

He said a large number of people of Balochistan depended on livestock sector for their livelihood and they waited for the festival as it helped in cattle trade adding that practical steps would be taken to resolve problems faced by inhabitants of Sibi district.

On this occasion, the Minister announced Rs 03 million for uplift projects of Divisional Public School Sibi and Government Degree College Sibi, Rs 2.5 million for Sibi Stadium, Rs 01 million as financial assistance to cattle owners, Rs 01 million as reward for festival organizers, Rs 500,000 for schoolchildren presented flower show and Rs 100,000 for their chief instructor. He also announced Rs 200,000 for Sibi Press Club and Rs 100,000 for commentator of the festival. Local girl schoolchildren presented national song in the festival while students of Cadet College Jaffarabad demonstrated Karate show. First time in the history of the festival, wrestlers from Balochistan and Sindh provinces presented Malakhra (local wrestling) which was appreciated by people.

Delivering welcome address, Commissioner Sibi division Masood Qamar said credit of organizing Sibi Festival in situation caused by floods went to Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani and Chief Secretary Balochistan Mir Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri. He said the festival boost trade of thousands of cattle besides representing local cultural values. Senior military and civil officials and local elders also participated in the festival. Later, the Finance Minister distributed shields amongst heads of government departments and organizers for making comprehensive arrangements for holding the festival.
