Shutter-down strike in Balochistan

QUETTA: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in some districts of Balochistan on Saturday, condemning the extra-judicial killings and recovery of bullet-riddled bodies of Baloch political opponents. People also set an office of the Balochistan Education Department on fire in Turbat. All the records and furniture of the building was completely burnt. A case has been registered in the Turbat city police station against the unidentified persons. The strike call was given by the Baloch Student’s Organisation-Azad (BSO-Azad) and the relatives of BSO and BNP leaders Jamil Yaqoob and comrade Qayyum. The bodies of the slain leaders were found in Turbat on Thursday. A strike was observed in Turbat, Gwadar, Ormara, Hoshab, Mand, Buleida, Tump, Jewni, Dasht, Khuzdar, Kalat, Zhari Mashkay, Awaran, Naal, Surab, Panjgur, Pasni, Hub and other townships of Balochistan. All the roads and streets in the towns wore a deserted look, with very thin traffic plying on the roads. Most of the shops and trading centres, banks, medical stores and even restaurants remained closed, which caused immense trouble for the citizens. Stringent security measures were adopted to deal with any untoward incident. staff report
