Balochistan: Gas pipeline blown up, DSP escapes remote bomb attack

Occupied Balochistan: Unknown men blew up 18-inch diameters gas pipeline in Naseerabad district, supplying gas to nine districts of Balochistan including the provincial capital Quetta during Tuesday and Wednesday night.


"Unknown men planted an explosive material with an 18-inch diameters gas pipeline supplying gas to nine districts of Balochistan and blew it up with remote control," a Levies official said, adding that pipeline was blown up soon after the gas supply was restored to Balochistan after seven days.

Official sources in Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) said huge flames were rising from the affected portion of the pipeline. Heavy contingent of security force, Levies Force and police reached the site and cordoned off the area.(APP)

Meanwhile two police constable were injured in a remote control blast in Maian Ghundi area of Quetta. According to details Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) narrowly escaped a remote controlled blast on Mastung Road in new Saryab area, an outskirt of Quetta, on Tuesday. DSP Shahlkot Police Station Sikandar Tareen was on routine patrol in his official vehicle and heading towards police station Shalkot as he reached near Mastung Road, an explosive device planted along with road detonated through remote control.

The windscreen of the vehicle was smashed due to the impact of blast causing minor injuries to two police personnel sitting inside the vehicle.

However, DSP remained unhurt in the attack. Personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) and police rushed to the site soon after the blast and cordoned off the area for protecting evidences from the blast site. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment and had been discharged after providing them with medical care.

“The target was DSP and he remained unhurt. Around 15 kilograms explosive materials were used in the remote controlled blast,” a police officer Niaz Bhatti told newsmen. Talking to media sources, a police officer confirmed that DSP did not receive any threat from any banned organization. A case has been registered against unknown people investigations are underway. No group has claimed the responsibility till filing of this report.

It is pertinent to mention an official vehicle of Frontier Corps (FC) was also attacked with a remote controlled blast in the same area a week ago.

Meanwhile, Police claimed to have busted a gang involved in making IEDS in Quetta and arrested two suspects after seizing explosive materials from their possession in Saryab Road on Tuesday morning.

Addressing a news conference, Director Crime Branch, Mohammad Naeem Kakar said that an informer told him regarding smuggling of a huge quantity of explosive materials in Quetta. Acting upon tip-off he deployed police officers in Dukani Baba roundabout and started snap checking during which stopped a suspected pickup vehicle and found materials used in making IEDS.

Police claimed to have recovered silver powders 754 Kg, packed in separate sacks, and different wires of 800 yards which used for detonating the explosive material. “These are used in making IEDs,” Mohammad Naeem said. The suspects have been identified as Abdul Mateen s/o Abdul Majeed and Muhibullah s/o Saleh Mohammad. They are residents of Kuchlak, an outskirt, of Quetta city.
