BNP Deplores Judiciary, Media’s “Double Standards” toward Balochistan

The Baloch Hal News

KARACHI: The Balochistan National Party (BNP) has “deplored” in its Friday’s Central Committee (CC) meeting the silence of the country’s judiciary and the media over the government’s kill and dump policy against political opponents in Balochistan province

The expression of concern came in BNP’s central committee meeting which was presided by Dr. Jhanzaib Baloch, BNP’s acting president. The meeting was also attended by former member of the National Assembly Rauf Mengal and BNP’s secretary information Agha Hassan Baloch.

In a statement issued to the media after the CC meeting, the BNP leaders alleged that the government was engaged in the “genocide” of the Baloch people by attempting to eliminate them from the world map. The present government has continued the “repressive policies” of former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf. Baloch political activists were being killed regularly but the judiciary and the media have decided not to speak up on these issues, the BNP lamented.

“We believe all political parties which are a part of the current government and the judiciary and the media which do not take notice of the grave violation of human rights in Balochistan are equally responsible in the crime against humanity,” said Dr. Baloch.

“It is strange that the judiciary takes suo moto notice and the media comes up with ‘breaking news’ on every minor development that takes place in the Punjab province,” he whined, ” but the government’s kill and dump policy toward Baloch political activists does not get a modicum of attention. This clearly shows the double standards of the country’s judiciary and the media toward the Baloch.”

He said the government was deliberately trying to create crises in Balochistan for the purpose of urging the “oppressed nations of Pakistan” to give up their quest for the right of self-determination, maximum internal autonomy and control over the natural resources.

“We strongly condemn the policy of target killing the political opponents under a government that claims to be democratic. Democracy cannot flourish amid tyranny, oppression and target killing of political opponents. We appeal to the international community, the world media and human rights groups to take urgent notice of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Balochistan,” he pleaded.

The BNP CC meeting decided to organize seminars and protest rallies to create awareness among the Baloch people for their democratic rights and to protest over the targeted killing of Baloch political activists.

The BNP is headed by former Balochistan chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who is currently on self-exile in Duabi after remaining in jail for more than one year during the dictatorial days of former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf.
