Anti-Baloch clique wants ‘my removal’: Zardari Anti-Baloch clique wants ‘my removal’: Zardari QUETTA: Political parties have termed a new social contract the only solution to the crisis Balochistan is facing today.

Leaders of different parties have also emphasised the need for giving constitutional guarantees to the people of Balochistan over control of their province’s resources.

At a seminar, they expressed reservations over the recently announced Aghaz-i-Huqooq-i-Balochistan package.

Acting President of the Balochistan National Party Dr Jehanzaib Jamaldini rejected the package and called for confidence-building measures to pave the way for political reconciliation.

“First, the military operation should be stopped, displaced persons should be rehabilitated and missing persons should be traced to restore the confidence of the people,” he said.

Mr Jamaldini called for a UN probe into the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, Nawabzada Balach Marri and other Baloch political workers.

“Baloch leaders’ killings should be investigated by the UN as it is also probing the murder of Benazir Bhutto,” he said.

Syed Nasir Ali Shah, the People’s Party MNA from Quetta, said the Balochistan package was the right step and the initiative would ultimately pave the way for reconciliation.

“So far we have not resolved issues facing the province. One of these issues is provincial autonomy. Had it been granted in 1973, the people would not have been demanding independence now,” he said.

The speakers observed that the policies of various dictators had served to deepen the Balochistan crisis.

Usman Kakar, provincial president of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, and Prof Naseem Achakzai also spoke on the occasion.
