Four men, two women hanged in Iran

Washington, 13 October (WashingtonTV)—Iran hanged five convicted drug traffickers and a murder in a prison in the southwestern city of Ahvaz, the Kayhan newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The report said that on 6 October, a man and two women convicted of drug trafficking, identified respectively as Abdollah J., Khadijeh J. and Fouzieh J., were hanged.

That same day, a convicted murder identified as Karim A. was sent to the gallows.

The report added that two drug traffickers, identified as Oday B. and Saad B., were hanged.

The hangings bring to at least 237 the number of people executed in Iran so far this year, according to an AFP count.

In 2008, Iran executed at least 346 people, second only to China, according to Amnesty International.

Murder, rape, armed robbery, drug trafficking, adultery and apostasy are among the crimes punishable by death in the Islamic Republic.
