QUETTA: The provincial capital and other towns of Balochistan received more downpours that claimed a life and damaged dozens of mud- houses in different towns besides disrupting traffic between Quetta – Karachi and Quetta- Taftan on Wednesday.
According to details, a fresh spell of rain started on Tuesday night in Quetta turning all main roads into ponds with several feet of water standing on them.
All seasonal nullahs passing through the city overflowed and several feet of rainwater accumulated on all main roads and streets of the provincial capital.
Dozens of mud houses and walls collapsed and many other developed cracks at Manu Jan Road, Hudda, Ahmed Street, Ghausabad, Barechabad, Brewery Road, Faizabad, Eastern Bypass and other areas of Quetta while rain water also entered into many shops in different locations of city inflicting damages to the shopkeepers. No casualty was, however, reported from any part of the province.
“We spent night under open sky as heavy rain caused colossal damages to our house,” Hameed Khan resident of Hudda who owns mud house told this ascribe and adding that no government official had arrived for their help so far.
According to reports reaching from other towns of Balochistan, a six-year- old boy, who was identified as Khalil Ahmed, died after skidding into flood water in Piringabad area of Mastung district. Rain caused havoc in different areas of Mastung as more than 20 houses were caved in Dasht area.
The rain water also affected Laskpass tunnel while road and a bridge connecting Quetta Karachi was damaged due to rain that suspended traffic for several hours.
Torrential rain also lashed Khuzdar and Kalat districts causing flash floods that damaged National Highway at different locations and standing crops.
Sources said that owing to land sliding at Wango area of Khuzdar traffic between Khuzdar and Shahdad Kot was suspended.
In Pishin, two people were wounded when roof of their houses collapsed due to heavy rain.
Dozens of mud houses in New Killi Surkhab and Hikalzai areas of Pishin were caved- in causing difficulties for the people particularly for children who spent the whole night in the open sky.
Sources said that rains also lashed Nushki district that damaged RCD Highway and railway track connecting Quetta to Taftan Pak-Iran border at four different places. Flood also affected more than two dozens houses in different areas of Nushki district while hundreds of cattle and livestock reported missing. Intermittent showers generated flood that inundating many low lying areas and damaged mud houses. However, no loss of life was reported from Nushki district.
Met Office has predicted more torrential rains and snowfall on mountains over the next 48 hours.
