Pakistan loses its senses as Baloch people brace for Independence celebrations on 11 August

Occupied Balochistan: Pakistani police, Para-Military and regular army, in a joint search operation, have arrested more than 200 people so far from different areas of Balochistan, including KIlli Qambrani and Saryab Road areas of Quetta.

According to Police sources the search operation was started after unknown attacker killed an SHO, his driver and bodyguard in killi Shahnawaz region of Quetta. Local sources reported that the security personnel forced their way into the houses in the mid night smashing and looting everything they found on their way. They dragged the innocent people out of their houses and subjected them to severe physical torture. Besides abducting men they harassed children and women.

It is pertinent to mention that several people have been arrested and mad disappeared from Qili Qambarani and Saryab raod areas in the past and later their brutally tortured and bullet-ridden bodies were found in deserted areas of Balochistan.

Baloch pro-independence political parties believe that the mass arrestes being carried by Pakistan security forces are a bid to harass the Baloch Nation and stop them from celebrating their Independence Day on 11 August 2011 and planned protests on 14 August against Pakistan Independence Day. It is important to mention that every year Baloch people de-celebrate 14 August as they believe that Pakistan’s coming into existence has resulted in the illegal occupation of Baloch sovereign state in 1948.

Resident of Saryab Raod and Killi Qambarani claimed that in yesterday’s operation the forces arrested over 200 people, if not all, majority of them are innocent and unarmed Baloch. However, the DIG police Mr. Shakeel Ahmed Tareen, told BBC Urdu that at least 159 people have so far been arrested and the operation was still continuing, more arrests are expected.

Meanwhile, local residents said that the operation rounded up only the poor and innocent without any evidence of offences committed. They claimed that the right to privacy and the sanctity of the homes of the people had been violated during the operation; women and elderly persons had been insulted. One resident stated that Balochs were being collectively punished, indicating a discriminatory attitude by the government, reported daily times, one the most read Pakistani English language newspapers.
