International Committee of the Red Cross’s approach is bias towards Baluchistan: Advocate Sadiq Raisani

Occupied Baluchistan, Quetta: The central general secretary of Baluch National Front and the Central Organiser of Baluch Bar Association Mr Sadiq Raisani [advocate] in an interview with DailyTawar asked the International Human Rights Organisations to take notice of thousands of forced-disappearances in Baluchistan and treat the Baluch prisoners in accordance with International laws. He further said that the Human Rights Organisations affiliated with UN should help the Baluch because the extra-judicial abductions and killings of the Baluch people are still taking place.

Answering to a Question about ICRC’s role in Baluchistan he said that International Committee of the Red Cross is an International Organisation which provides all basic facilities to war effected people. Helping prisoners of War, providing medication to the injured, and helping the displaced are the first and foremost responsibilities of this Organisation. However, the role of ICRC towards Baluchistan has been biased because they have not done any practical work to help the Baluch displaced, injured and other victims of war from Kohistan Marri, Dera Bugti, Nasirabad, Jhalawan, Sarawan, Darakhshan and elsewhere in Baluchistan. The ICRC is playing a significant role in Darfur and several war affected territories but they have not done anything to help the people of Baluchistan.

He alleged that evading from Baluchistan issue the ICRC says that the government doesn’t allow them to help Baluch victims of war where as in war affected areas of Darfur, Ethiopia and Nepal they are working (with the help of UN) without caring about the states’ restriction in those regions. He said according the information (he received) so far the ICRC has not done any practical work in Baluchistan. He appealed the International Justice Organisations to take notice of “what he called” the biased approach of ICRC in Baluchistan.

The Geneva Conventions of 1949
The Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols are international treaties that contain the most important rules limiting the barbarity of war. They protect people who do not take part in the fighting (civilians, medics, aid workers) and those who can no longer fight (wounded, sick and shipwrecked troops, prisoners of war).
