Occupied Balochistan: At least three more people, including the Quetta jail chief warden and a journalist, were killed in different parts of Balochistan Saturday. A man was also injured in a hand-grenade attack in Pasni.
A bullet- riddled body of a Baloch youth was discovered from Khuzdar district, 360kms southeast of Quetta, on Saturday morning.
According to police, locals spotted a body lying near Arbab complex in Khuzdar and informed police. A police team rushed to the site and moved the body to Civil Hospital Khuzdar for autopsy, where the victim was identified as Abdul Qudus, who went missing some time ago from the Arbab Complex area of Khuzdar. “He was brutally tortured before being killed,” a hospital source said.
Sources said the victim had gone missing around nine months ago from Khuzdar and an FIR of his abduction had been registered by his family members. Police handed over the body to the heirs after completing legal formalities.
Separately, the bullet-riddled body of a Baloch National Movement (BNM) and journalist, Razzaq Gul, was found dumped in a deserted area of Singani Sar near Turbat.
Balochistan Levies official Abdul Qadir said Gul, a reporter for a publication group, was whisked away near his house on Friday evening and had been missing since then. His body was found near Singani Sar area, close to the old Civil Hospital in Turbat. Law enforcement agencies moved the body to a state-run hospital for autopsy.
“The victim was shot twice in the head and chest and his body bore marks of torture,” hospital sources said.
“Gul was at his home when someone phoned him and asked him to come outside. He went outside and did not come back,” an official told reporters quoting family members of the slain BNM leader. The Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) and Council of All Balochistan Press Club condemned the killing. BUJ also announced a three-day mourning and protest today Sunday.
“As many as 17 journalists have been killed during that past three years and not a single murder was properly investigated,” BUJ said in a statement. A shutter-down strike was observed in Tump, Mand, Hoshab and Turbat to protest Gul’s killing.
Sources also reported that unidentified people shot dead Quetta District Jail Chief Warden Imtiaz Rasool on Jail Road. The attackers, who were riding a motorbike, fled the scene. The body was shifted to the Provincial Sandeman Hospital for autopsy.
“It can be a case of target killing,” a police official said, adding that police had launched a manhunt in the area. A case has been registered against the unidentified assailants and investigation was underway.
The banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the killing.
Meanwhile, an unidentified person lobbed a hand grenade at a general store on Pasni Road, injuring a man identified as Ghulam Mustafa.
