Iranian police officers have killed four saboteurs in armed clashes on Zahedan-Bam road in southeastern Iran, reports say.

"Four armed saboteurs were killed during a deadly clash with police officers of Sistan-Baluchestan Province," provincial police commander Gholam-Ali Nekouei told reporters on Saturday.

He added that a tanker also burst into flames in the clash, which left its driver dead.

The event took place following a rare terrorist attack in a mosque in Zahedan near Iran's southeastern border with Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Pakistan-based Jundullah terror group claimed responsibility for the terrorist blast which killed 25 people and wounded 125 others last week.

Nekouei said that the mosque blast in Zahedan was part of a scenario to discourage the Iranian people from participating in the June 12 presidential election.

Jundullah's ring leader, Abdolmalek Rigi, has called on Sunni clerics to dishearten people from voting, threatening to assassinate those who refuse to do so.
