MAR 26 The Crisis in Balochistan: From the Very Beginning

The conflict in Balochistan is only worsening. But what do we really know about the crisis and what exactly are we doing to help?

Since the first conflict which took place place in 1948, up until now, the ongoing issues have continued between Baloch nationalists and the Government of Pakistan and Government of Iran over Balochistan, a region which includes the Balochistan province in southwestern Pakistan and the Sistan and Baluchestan Province of southeastern Iran.

Issues range from human rights abuses, greater autonomy, increased royalties from natural resources and provincial revenue, and in some cases full secession.

One of Pakistan Development Fund's missions is to create an open and safe space in order to better understand issues that perpetuate Pakistan; therefore, we are hosting a documentary screening as well facilitating an informative discussion for attendees to thoroughly understand the crisis in Balochistan and to be informed of ways in which we can help this deeply marginalized community.

The documentary we are eager to screen is called "Balochistan: Pakistan's Other War" in which Al Jazeera's Ahmad Zaidan enters Balochistan to offer a glimpse into a region which has the highest number of militant, insurgent and sectarian attacks of any province in Pakistan.

Entry is purely based on donation-- you can donate as much or as little as you please.
All funds this semester will be going to Thardeep Rural Development Program, which is providing relief to those affected by the Thar Desert famine. Our donations will specifically go towards water sanitation measures, by building permanent solutions such as River Osmosis plants in households, repairing non-functional water schemes in far-flung areas, etc.

As always, refreshments will be served.

Wednesday, March 26th, 2014. We hope to see you all there!

Yours,
PDF Team '13-'14
