Regarding the Iraqi regime's attack on the Ashraf refugee camp outside Baghdad

The Baloch Community - Sweden strongly condemns the Iraqi regime's attack on the Ashraf refugee camp outside Baghdad.

During the attack, 7 refugees murdered (1) 200 injured and about 50 refugees have been arrested (2). During the attack, 7 refugees murdered (1) 200 injured and about 50 refugees have been arrested (2). The attack has been carried out on direct order of the Iraqi regime's Prime Minister Nori Al-Maleki. Nori Al-Maleki has in turn received orders from the Iranian regime to commit this inhuman act.

The refugees have lived in the camp since the Saddam period. After Saddam's case, took the U.S. forces over the responsibility for refugees' security. This has been regulated by agreements between Ashraf camps residents and U.S. forces. Despite the agreements and promises, the U.S. has handed over responsibility for refugees' security to the Iraqi regime. The Iranian regime which has good relations with the Iraqi regime has repeatedly demanded that the refugee camp shall be closed and the residents shall be handed over to Iran. The Iraqi regime which is Shia-dominated has strong ties with the Iranian regime and is doing everything to satisfy the Iranian rulers!

The Iraqi regime's attack against defenseless refugees is contrary to the Geneva Convention on asylum law. It is the refugees' right under international conventions to get protection in Iraq and not be handed over to Iran. If the refugees will be handed over to Iran, they will be subjected to torture, execution and, at best, be sentenced to long prison sentences.

We appeal to the Swedish government, Amnesty International, Red Cross, political organizations and the international community to act for the refugees right to stay in Iraq and that the security of refugees will be guaranteed by the U.S. and the UN.
