QUETTA: Senior leader of the Balochistan National Party (B.N.P.) and former Senator and MNA, Sanaullah Baloch has raised concerns on the recently signed “unilateral agreement” of the central government regarding the handing over of Balochistan’s strategic Gwadar Port to the China’s state-owned company without Baloch consent, international biding and transparent process.
In a press statement, the Baloch leader said Balochistan had an unresolved conflict with Islamabad on several issues such as the control over land, natural resources and over-militarization of province by non-Baloch security apparatus which resulted appalling human rights situation.
He said that PPP’s foregoing, Baloch insensitive, government awarded multi-billion dollars contract in contradiction to the to the standing stay order of the Supreme Court, barring the Port of Singapore Authority from transferring immovable property of the Gwadar Port Authority to another party.
Mr. Baloch said that Islamabad hastily handed over Gwadar to China in February 2013 when Balochistan was under Governor’s rule – there was and there is no representative government in Balochistan. He further said that along with violation of national laws, the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s Revised Code of Good Practices on Fiscal Transparency was also disregarded by giving away a strategic jewel to the Chinese without international bidding and censoring all details of contract from Baloch people.
He claimed that even current government in Balochistan has no idea about the contract and its details and despite repeated repeated requests federal government refused to share clauses, details of contract concerning lease period, use of the port – whether commercial or military or both – , management mechanism, cost and revenue sharing and the most important aspect, the security arrangements.

Sana Baloch said that Islamabd should take wise decision and should not follow footsteps of Musharaf – who gave away Saindak and Duddar to the Chinese without fair process and militarized Balochistan for sake of appeasing to the Chinese.
He demanded that all contract including extension of Saindak copper-gold project, Duddar and Gwadar must be cancelled until peaceful and permanent resolution of Baloch-Islamabad conflict.
